The Department of Health recommends that you wait until 6 months before introducing solids (and that you should breastfeed throughout this time). Health professionals recognize, however, that all babies are different, so if you feel your baby is ready earlier, have a word with your health visitor or other health professional and they will be able to give you lots of good advice. It is important that you don't give solids too early or it could be harmful.
