I did access into nursing a few years back. Those who didn't have the relevent maths and english language qualifaction did short modules in those subjects. It was sort of intergrated into the access course.

    I loved my access course.

Im currently doing an access to higher education course in healthcare science which is a year course and gives you the relevant equivalent of GCSE's and points to get into Uni. If you already have GCSE's it does help but there are people on my course who havn't studied in over 25 years! My days are monday 9.15-12.30, tuesdays 9.15-1.30 & weds 9.15-12.30 (if i had of had to do maths it would have been fridays 9.15-12.30) - so not away fr dd for too long and the college are helping me with childcare. There are lots of my classmates who wants to do nursing/midwifery and only me wanting to do radiology! I read some things into the NHS only yesterday which say they are family-friendly and try to work around peoples commitments. So look into college and uni's - my first port of call was learn direct who were really helpful in my options!

Hi i have now done all the reseach into this and you don't have to re due gcse's the access to nursing course is enough also you can do a diploma instead of a degree.

    I hope this helps.

    I did!

It depends on the entry requirements of the uni. Even though maths, english and biology were included in the access course i still had to have grade C at GSCE level AS WELL. So check your chosen uni's requiremenst!!

You don't have to re-do your gcse's if your doing the access course.

No you cannot train to be a MW without doing a 3 year degree at uni. It is one of the most competitive and difficult courses to gain entry onto.  You wil be working 12 hour shifts, days, nights etc so you need fantastic support and childcare.

Each uni's entry requirements are different but all need you to have GCSE's at grade C or above in English Maths and Science so you would have to resit these. You also need to have studied with in the last 3 years to be excepted. You need UCAS Credits so you would have to do an Access to Higher education in a relevent subject. (I have just completed my access to Nursing course)

If it is something you seriously want to do, have a look here http://www.studentmidwives.co.uk/phpBB3/index.php as there is so much support and the girls are fab and will answer any questions you may have. Be prepared for heartbreak though as it is very hard to get into. I have just applied for the second time 2 weeks ago so fingers crossed for me!

I'm not sure whether you can do these online, but you need to do an access to health studies course. Best thing to do would be to ring your local college and see what they say. Most colleges have to enrolment dates for these courses September and February.

If your on benefits or have a very low income you will also get help towards childcare whilst you attend college.

    Hth a little.

    Can anyone help me??

Im a fully qualified beauty therapist but since having my children i have totaly changed my mind about my chosen career.

I would love to be a midwife but have no idea of how to do it.

Ive been told i need 5 GCSE grades A-C and 180 ucap points whatever this means.

I dont have GCSE'S that are higher than a C grade so would i need to take these again? What else do i need to have or how can i obtain these entry requirements?!

Also does anyone know if i cn do some sort of homestudy course as my children are under the age of 13 months at the moment and wouldnt want to be away from them for long and definatley dont want to put them in a nursery at their young age.

Please help. Ive enquired at universities but i still dont understand what they are on about or what i need to get on a course etc.
