My ds1 had bilateral (both ears) grommits due to glue ear. In order to hear properly there has to be air flow, glue ear is caused by a build up of fluid in the ear due to the tube being blocked and no air flow. Ear infections are a common symptom. Grommits are a ting hamma-like bead that is fitted in the eardrum and allows air flow and fluid to clear by maintaining an open passage. The effect is instant and dramatic, tele turned down, improved speech. The grommits usually fall out by themselves, unnoticed after 18mth. Having said that my ds1 recently had a very wax grommit appear in the outer ear, 5yr after it was fitted, unheard of apparently, lol. As the child grows so does the ear and the problem usually corrects itself. HTH..x

DD has just been diagnosed with Glue ear in her right ear after a hearing test. Her left ear 'isnt normal' and the audiologist reckoned she probably had it in both ears at one point but grew out of it. So they're leaving it 6-8 weeks and seeing us again, if no improvement then it's a referal to ENT.

Just wondering if anyone has any information on it at all? All i know is from her dad as he had it as a kid and is now totally deaf in one ear, so all ive heard is the bad side!

Are the chances good that she'll outgrow it in her right ear too or not?

    Cheers!

    xx
