I'd probably act surprised because if he doesn't go he might miss out and maybe (after being upset about his friend not going) he'll make new friends plus I'm sure he'll be too occupied. Could you not pick him up if it really goes wrong? I remember when I was a kid I went camping with my friend's family, hated it the first day, cried wanted to go home but once we went to the beach the next day I was fine - got to give it a go I think (I must have been about 6 or 7)... right here goes ,
my son is in the beavers , he is going on a trip at the weekend with them and i have paid the money everything is finalised.
then,
ive just this morning found out that his little friend won't be going , now the problem i have is do i ,
a) not tell him and act supprized when he comes home, risking he might not have a very good time .
b ) tell him and risk him say that he doesn't want to go £18 down the drain.
he is ok going to the meet ups but any other time he has gone for day trips he has said that he really misses us and gets upset.
gggggrrrrrhhhhh
what do i do.

yes i could pick him up its around 40 miles away so not a far really .
i am a bit upset cos 1 of the reasons he is going is cos of this child and now hes ducked out ,
like you say he will make other frinds , we all know what kids are like , they talk about nothing but 1 child at home and play with 5 others when push come s to shove he will survive , he will have a great time and thats that
maybe im being over procetive , let him go
