did you know I have even recieved two not usefuls..lol..and that too in those reveiws that everyone esle has found very useful...

oh nazmin i just did a test and i recieved the invite on another email address it comes from my email address and my name donmt come up for a strange reason only on the subject, if u see a email from sonyaand three numbers at hotmail dot come thats me. i dont want to put my full email address here hence leaving out three numbers.

Nazmin its really sweet of you to wait for my invitation i think ive sent you 3 altogether at the same email address, perhaps iot gets delivered to your junk mail? anyway if u dont get it, just go to the website and sign up or perhaps someone else can invite you but to be honest if my invitation isnt working im sure noone elses will or maybe they will, but it may be time consuming and not worth the few miles/points you get for invitatuions. anyway see u there hun. i hope u get my invitaion.
I think nasima is right it is addictive, since ive beenon i havent had a chnace to go on fb and my dh did the washing up and fed ds. he goes i##l give u the 50 p you gonna get by wasting your day lol, look after the kids. im gonna try go on it less but im so addicted what people rating, i hate it i always rate very useful and maybe v usually useful just as so many people write somewhat usefuil to mine, i know they not nice, but i think its abit rude, i feel like saying dont rate if u dont like lol. i know im a newbie, and i rushed the reviews last night especially the dvd one which i got the worst ratings.
anyway i think nasima is wise as ifrom tomorrow ive got a really busy day, and will be thinking of that site probably, like i couldnt wait to get ds to sleep and go on, its satisfying when randoms come and rate lol.

PMSL I was thinking the same thing about her letting Karim into the house while she was alone and him waiting companiably for her to finish sewing, using their computer etc. I woudln't do that, most people I know wouldn't do that, it is taboo in that part of the world. You don't even have to be a Muslim to have those reservations.
I think you're right about the audience she has appealed to. It seems to be the people who don't know that culture and cannot recognise that it is the work of an outsider to that world. I don't think it is unrealistic that she had an affair, but it is unrealistic how it came about and how she never seemed even slightly guilty or ashamed as a woman of that background/situation would be. Also her "journey of self discovery" only seemed to be having an affair. Even at the end she remained a weak wife (though an absent one) and an even weaker mother. I couldn't also comprehend the sense or logic of the ending, him flying off to live in BD while they remained in the UK.

hi Niz that was so helpful ............. i think i just need to get the hang of it .. when i go into it i am like OMG ,,,,,,,,, that was helpful Niz and i guess i will wait for Aleena's invite AS for Brick Lane ............... i really really diislike it when people get this hype of ethnic and go gcrazy midlle class treny yuppy type english people like at my office luuuuuuuuurved it and were lke wow so amazing I thought i better read it and see it and read it ...........OMG what a disappointment like .............. Niz says how typical is that. the class system in BD is so so rampant and i felt readng it that she came form a very lower middle class fmaily and even though she said her dad had land to get her married to 'channu is rperesetnatiive of village girls making it good ............ the pther reaosn felt she was lower middle class was because she mentioned her fmaily ahd servants and then her sster ran off with a servant and then the whole thing was so unrealistc ...like you go and meet a ggguy and woudl have an affair and lke some hot blooded rebekkious youth is gonna be interested in a woman from bnalgadesh married with two kids and the end scene is that not her ice skating ? anyway i tried to watch the film and `I did say what a prude i was ... me and dh in bed last nite and wathcing and the scene comes on where they are doing rumpy pumpy and the scen was so long and dh and i hate wathcng stuff like that .....the scene was quite graphic and quite sensual with her recalling her having sex with him and they show a scnce then flash back to her longing and looking back omg i swtched it off !!!!!!!!!!!!! and then i saw channu coming home and the lover is at home with her and is sittng surfng his computer like that is so natural as a benglai it woud be so so so taboo to be havng by yourself aother man in the house who is not related to you and yes Monica ali is a coconut pretenidng to be all bneglai and all she does is reach out to thse whie middle classes who think ahh bless culture and is it not wonderful nazneen makes love to reject her cuture and how how wierd that the man is havng sex with a married owman but then prays the book pees me off big time but it is not for our market but midlle classes who lurrrrrrrrve a bit of cutture just like when you go to /brick lane it is so yaH and trendy26/11/08 22:10
Naz you can spend as little or as much time as you want. In the beginning I was quite addicted, that's because I was always curious to see what ratings people were giving me so was always checking and also rating people in the hope that they will rate me back etc. Now I just go and do a review when I feel like it and do ratings also in a batch. I have started to enjoy reading other people's reviews though, sometimes I just go and read a few here and there just for the heck of it. I like the travel reviews, there was one on the Great Barrier Reef that made my skin tingle (ok so I'm a sad person). Personally I don't think it's helpful to write those ultra-long 1000+ word reviews for everything under the sun but that's how they seem to like it there. For some topics like travel especially you can write loads (I had so much more to write in my Sri Lanka review but kept it short and still got 1500 words) but who wants to read 1500 words about a powder brush anyway?
Ally your reviews are very good for a newbie. If you check people's early reviews you'll notice that they're mostly useless unless they've been on other review sites before. Sometimes people will give you tips on what to include to make your review better (by commenting).
Nas I watched Brick Lane too. *warning* spoilers in this paragraph* I thought the movie was very well made but tbh I found the whole story totally inauthentic. I think the author was born in BD to a Bengali father and a white mother but has spent all her life in the UK? Something like that, I might be wrong. Anyway I detected a ring of inauthenticity to the book, I guess that's what you mean by it wasn't believable. One part of the book actually almost made me howl with laughter, which was when Nazneen was fondly thinking about what to write to her sister about her lover. I mean, SL is liberal compared to BD and yet the idea of a respectable married woman thinking lovingly of how to describe her lover to her sister back home made me literally PMSL!! I thought the author seemed hugely unaware of how big marital infidelity by a woman is in that part of the world. Also, Nazneen starts eyeing up Karim at their very first meeting, there is a reference to her seeing his thighs as well. And she watches him intrestedly while he is performing his namaz. Right, sounds exactly right for a god-fearing village woman from rural Bangladesh who is supposed to be very conservative in her thinking too
. I was going to review the book in detail on Amazon, might do it on Dooyoo now

tbh, when i come on the comp, i just check emails, fb, bounty and that usually passes abt an hour, which means i just abt have enough time to take lo out to a group and get some shopping if needed then come back ,cook, tidy pray and then it's almost time for dh to get back so i can pander to his every need
speaking of pandering, i wtached brick lane last night(or rather this morning after recording it)- didnt really find it believable and it was a bit vulgar for my liking. anyone else seen it?

Re: brick lane, i agree with nazmin, why on earth would a typical bengali youth have a full blown affair with someone his mum's age? i was sure he was just gonna dump her but then he proposes ,HA! never heard anything so ridiculous in my life. And nazneen, my goodness- she just sleeps with him like it's nothing, no peeping round to see if she might get caught, she didnt even seem that bothered that her husband who was supposed to be out of work, may come home at any time.
And the daughter who was so insolent, wow- never seen such a rude young lady ,surely she would have gotten a few slaps in that time for the way she spoke to the father?
A nyway i think we can conclude it was very unrealistic.
Got up so early as i get really hungry in the mornings these days, atleast it's an automatic alarm to get up and pray lol.
