I do thank my lucky stars Gordon, your 2nd is exactly what happened during my first but my fears were completely dismissed by both my MW & Consultant.

hmm, the way i see it is this every woman has the choice to birth her baby in whatever way she sees fit BUT that should be an informed choice, so people should be made aware of the dangers of c-sections and of natural deliveries, I also believe that 'most' women are capable of natural birth, the c-section rates in the UK and the US are stupidly high because imo women have lost faith in theirs bodys abilitity to birth their baby.

If a woman has a medical reason for a c-section fine, if she has a psychological reason like tokophobia then again fine. but imo having a c section 2 weeks early just to go back to work at a specific time is wrong. It can be detrimental to the baby to be born too soon for no good reason.

i asked about the option of a c section when i first found i was pregnant and both my mw and consultant told me no and that i shouldn't let my previous birth cloud my judgement, the probability of what happened first time round happening again was so minimal it was almost impossible

^^^^ yup that's what they said to me - as dd2 almost died in labour and had to be dragged out of me they can go jump if they tell me that again!

Was that to me Gemz?  If so I wasn't dismissing anything just saying what happened to me.

I was told flatly I wouldn't get one as there was no need.

and again. you get no medal for having a vaginal birth. it does not automatically grant you mother of the year status.

if someone wants a c section regardless of their reasons, thats their choice.  its not up to you or anyone else to dismiss their reasons.

    yeouch Becks! Not good!

tbh even drs get it wrong....such as wrenching my legs into stirrups and making my pelvis and hips go crunch. Still suffering from problems with my Sacroilliac joint (where ya coccyx joins ya pelvis) 3 years on. It sucks monkey butt.

Twinkster: my mum had a horrific 27 hour labour with my older sister, she came out hand first. She decided to brave a natural labour with me. My head didnt engage, and i ended up 'tearing her up and down'. She then had another natural labour with my brother even though she had a coil in situ. Im assuming that went funky too as a couple of years later she had reconstructive surgery on her vag due to constantly tearing.

If i was my mum id have had a c-section personally! But hey, everyone is an individual!

I had a student MW examine me first time round and she missed DD was OP, no one checked her though as they were so busy.  Queue being sent home and 3 further days of agony.

I had a student Dr present throughout this birth and she was lovely, although when it came to the stiches it meant I had 3 people peering at my chuff discussing me like I was a pair of trousers waiting to be taken up........

    Because they ask for it.

Patients right to have the birth they want and all that carry on. Yes you can be advised against it but when it boils down to it if someone is deeply unhappy at the thought of a vaginal birth then they are entitled to choose a section.

Luckily for me I had an amazing birth 2nd time round so I'm very pleased I was denied.

I wouldn't allow a student near my lady garden with stitches ever, ever, ever, ever again. I need reconstructive surgery when my family is complete it's that bad.

tbh the student who stitched me up did a great job lol the community mw who removed the stitches was very impressed lol

tbh i dont think the MW's had much to do with my birth save standing around watching. It ended up being a doctors only affair.

Personally i'd rather have had fifty students than the one idiot qualified midwife I had

it irks me. I realise people need to learn and i am usually happy to let the students have a prod if its really necessary as in the senior staff feel that they will learn something from prodding me or talking to me but when it comes to something as personal as labour and birth when it all goes wrong and not even being asked. They can f-off imo.

The amount of times I ask people 'can I mess with you please?' for no other reason than competency signing!

    What a load of codswallop.

I would bet my last rolo the number of people demanding c sections for reasons the medical profession would deem unecessary are a tiny tiny minority compared to mothers experiencing and wanting to experience a straightforward vaginal delivery.

i gave birth in a training hospital and the room was filled with students as soon as things started to go wrong. They have to witness and/or take part in x number of each type of delivery before they can qualify.

TBH i found it disgusting and indignant. I realise people need to learn but not when someone is going through something so traumatic.

So imo Balls to the students.
