I dont think it is selfish. Nor do I know the woman to comment on her choices.
Better not list my reasons for wanting a section.

She decided before she got pregnant, she didn't want the hassle of giving birth and the time it takes plus the unknown date of arrival. Was a completely selfish choice with no thought to the child, and the fact that she doesn't get her own children out of bed in the morning or put them to bed at night for the majority of the week makes you wonder why she bothered in the first place anyway, but thats a whole different debate......

At the end of the day it's their choice...but using the line "I'm scared to give birth" if its your 1st baby? We'll were all scared cos its the fear of the unknown.

How do you know it was decided lightly? She would have been made fully aware of everything by her consultant.

Oh Zoesmum it unfortunately is.
My brothers fiance is a nanny and her boss has just had her 2nd by elective c section, she 'needed' to know for work purposes so her and her husbands business would continue smoothly without the oh so awful disruption of bringing a new life into this world.
She is having 2 weeks at home (working) then my brothers fiance will be taking over.

I may be opting for an elective section this time. My choice, my body. I dont think it is something people go into lightly.

I can understand why some people who have had a previous traumatic birth would want a c-section. And people who are so terriffied of giving birth that it could be detrimental (toko-something, can't remember what someone called it). I do think it's silly though when people have c-sections because they are a bit nervous about giving birth, or because they don't want to be stretched or some other reason to do with vanity.
I very nearly had to have an emergency c-section with ds, but ended up having ventouse. It's a major operation and statistically is more risky than natural birth and personally I would never choose it. I think many people do see it as an easy, more convenient way to give birth, because you have a definate date, no pain in delivery - without thinking about the surgery aspect and the recovery afterwards iyswim.

I am booked in for an elective C Section on Oct 23rd, if you had been at my previous 2 births (both ending in emergency c sections) you would understand my reasons behind my choice.
To me its heart breaking as I know this will be my last child and I know i am missing out by not giving birth naturally, it makes me cry knowing that I havent seen or been there when my children were born by opting for an elective hopefully this time without complications I may be able to see this little one enter the world.
I would no way judge anyone on their way of giving birth, for some its not as easy as pushing out a fart wether that me emotional or physical reasons. As long as both mother and baby are safe thats all that matters.

After 2 natural and last one being emergency section, no way would i elect to put myself through one, ouch ouch ouch...... 12 weeks later still ouch. Not on your nelly mrs!
4/7/08 12:27
have to say that yes a natural birth is a lot quicker to heal from - even if you tear or have an episiotomy the healing time is only about 2 weeks - and i know how long it took me to recover from a laproscopic appendectomy (longer lol). But i would still opt for a C Section were i ever to have another baby.
DD's birth was just horrific and i have no desire to ever go through that experience again. Im stil suffering from the after effects 3 years on.
Personal choice.
4/7/08 12:26
the clebs may have had family members or close friends who have had complicated births.
i was terified on the lead up to giving birth, as every one of my sisters have ened up in having emergency c-section and it took alot of encouragement from df to give birth naturally
4/7/08 12:17
Exactly who really cares. I personally wouldn't opt for a C Section by choice because the thought of being cut and someone stuffing their hand inside me makes me feel physically sick

4/7/08 12:17
But a fear of giving birth IS a valid reason is some cases because it goes far, far beyond just being scared.
Google toko/tocophobia and learn something about it.

VALID
4/7/08 12:14
Who are we to judge though? What we think is a valis reason or not?

I think its down to personal choice and what people have gone through in the past. If some people have had a traumatic "normal" delivery previous then why shouldnt they be allowed a a choice and allowed to enjoy the experiance just like those who have good normal deliveries.
Im being a birthing partner for my friend and she had a C section first time round and is petrified of having to have another, she really wants a VBAC so it just goes to show everybody is different.
If I had another and they gave me the choice I would still want a normal delivery.

edger im sorry to hear that.
i can completely understand someone in that situation wanting a c section.
but the op is on about celebs and people in general who choose them for no ther reason than for vainness and a fear of giving birth for not really much of a reason.

If it was to not mis the BB final or something I could fully understand.....
