DD and DS have been in bunks since they were just 4 and 2 1/2. They love them. We have L shaped stompa ones, brilliant.

DD fell out only once, on her head natch. But the A&E staff miss us if we don't visit regualrly.

ds is 21 months and although he is supposed to be on the bottom bunk (has been since 8 months) i quite often go in to find him asleep in step sons bed (only used at weekends) and when i move him he gets back up there and gets himself down in the morning.

I would never have bunks I would rather deal with the lack of space

I would not for a long time as I dont trust them not to push each other out. But now I have ceilings that are too low, so I would have to put it in the middle of the room in front of the window!

You can have shorty ones & normal standard ones.  Mine are 2 single beds on top of each other & they seperate when bunks are no longer required.  The shorty ones are really low & ideal for younger kids.

I'm wondering the same thing. My ds is 5 in October and I would love to get him bunk beds as he is still using his cotbed. Problem is I've heard the recommended age is 6 and I don't want to take any unnecessary risks so I will personally probably wait another year.

    My girls are 6 & 4 (nearly 7 & 5) & their bunks are being delivered in 2 weeks.

my oldest was in the top bunk at 3, i bought those smaller ones with the rail that goes round the top, we had no choice though because the room was to small for 2 singles

im sure its not down to age, i think its more to do with his abilities and whether he is trustworthy enough! before the age of 4 my ds was a loose cannon and probably would of launched himself from the top bunk!

he first went up to aged almost 5 and was a star.

i was 16 months old when i went from cot to bottom bunk, and about 3 when i went to top bunk

fell out A LOT though, and ripped the skin off my chin

hmm, perhaps 4/5 for top bunk

meant to add he's only been in it 4 months so perhaps still early days. You could put a matress down at the side if you're worried about him jumping out the side.

My 4 yr old went into the top bunk when we moved his sister into a bed (the bottom bunk). He was nearly 4 at the time and we've had no problems. He can even climb up without using the ladder (climbs up DD's headboard then his). If I recall when we bought it the guidelines said 6 yrs for a top bunk.
