id defo rather leave lo with someone who was a smoker than some one who wasan alki. another point bout drinkin bein bad-- ppl who drink drive!! i dont get it my sil wont smoke in her car when lo is in there (which is fair enough) but will let her dad take him out in the car when hes beein drinking!!

Awe well and if you spend your whole life worrying you will die of stress and misery

Which stone is it that should have died 14 years ago if you base it on how much he has smoked, drank and drugged but is still alive and they put it down to being happy and stress free?

They're as bad as each other really, but if it came down to choosing whether to leave my kids with a heavy smoker or an alcoholic, I'd choose the smoker.
As horrid as it smells and though I loathe to think of exposing my kids to those chemicals (which linger on your body for about an hour after each cig, right?) at least smoking doesn't inhibit your immediate ability to function, whereas being drunk would.

If you drink more than the recommended amounts (1-2 units max a day for most women and not every day) then you double your risk of many cancers.
Not THAT different to fags, really. Is it.

And if I had to choose, i'd rather leave my child with someone addicted to ciggarettes, than someone addicted to alcohol - so that in itself tells me which is 'worse' iyswim.

I'll fourth it

ill third that!
5/10/08 21:45
Me too Pippy.
5/10/08 21:38
Personally l would rather be addicted to ciggarettes than alcohol.
5/10/08 21:36
it did make me think.
i gave up smoking but am finding giving up alcohol (cos ttc) very hard, havent done the binge drinking thing for years anyway but i like my one or two after work.
5/10/08 21:30
yea i suppose. well i do both but my mum dont drink but does smoke an shes always moanin bout how drinkin should be banned n stuff so thought it mite make an interestin debate

5/10/08 21:24
maybe the difference is you CAN drink safely but there's no safe limit for smoking - if you only smoke 1 a day it can still damage you and others.
5/10/08 21:23
Not only that, the amount of times ive seen people being burned by cigarettes when out. At least if you get a drink spilled on you it doesnt leave a blister. Actually some of the things ive seen people drinking

5/10/08 21:22
it isnt seen as a health risk though is it, and not every fight ends in death
these days people are just beating up people and killing each other sober, think its just a sad part of life
5/10/08 21:20
yea but what about the drunk ppl that start fights on random other ppl isnt that the same?
5/10/08 21:20
Both as bad as each other for their own reasons but they are both legally acceptable so its your right to choose
5/10/08 21:19
I love drinking and smoking.
5/10/08 21:18
i think drink you do to yourself, not really inflicting harm on anyone else
but smoking you are forcing your habbit on people, and passive smoking is dangerous so i guess thats why smoke and not drink
5/10/08 21:16
which is worse?? everyone moans about smoking, its been banned in public places etc because it kills but isnt drinking just as bad if not worse? people die from drinkin it causes liver problems etc and not only that but drunk ppl start fights which leads to more deaths iyswim .am i the only 1 who thinks this??

yes obviously if talking about abuse of the substances. If it was someone who smokes a little or drinks a little then its different. Personally i wouldnt leave my kids with a smoker. Shoot me if you must. Wouldnt leave them with an alcoholic either. Im very picky. Probably why i never have a sitter
