There is a young lad next door about the same age as Holly and no they dont play together.

He looks like he could burst into tears when you say hello to him so my wonderful DD would probably send him into hiding the poor wee soul!

my ds1 has a group of kids in the street he plays with, ds2  and his pal join in with them, there is another group who play together and the 2 dont really mix for some reason. they are friendly enough but just dont seem to socialise. there has only ever been one family that i was really not happy at mine playing with, although the wee boy did often come to our door.when they did play it always ended in a fight.. or the child spittting or swearing or on one wonderful occasion p***ing on my drive. they were a charming family indeed! the dad was a college lecturer and the mum worked for barnardos. they have long since moved, and were replaced by the old man that hates kids... who has moved as well , i wonder sometimes if its me driving them away!

I havent really spoke to my neighbours, there is 2 polish couples nextdoor, they have 1 or 2 kids per couple, not sure who the kids all belong to except the baby. one of the men knocked last month and gave us a kilo of coffee because he had been given 20 kilos because of the factory he worked in was being moved. And i have a bag of boys clothes on the stairs (Been there over a week) that i keep meaning to pop by and see if they would like them for thier lad.

I think even if i wasnt anti social they still wouldnt play with any of the kids in the our square, probably forthe same reasons as Loubie.

We live in a court full of children but my two have never played with them, next door's little boy is 3months younger than DS2, but we only see them if we're passing by at the same time.

Tbh - and this will sound realllly snobby, but 90% of the families in this court are scum, you hear the parents swearing and screaming at their kids to ' GET THE F*CK IN NOW' of an evening if they are playing out......one of them is always drunk and arguing with the other neighbour (Think they are in-laws!).

I'd rather my children didn't associate with people like that.

    Nope.

The girls that lives next door to us is 6 months younger than my eldest and they don't hang out together at all... it' just one of those things.

If the children are younger then it really does depend on whether the parents get on; by that I mean if you've got 2 5 year olds living next door to each other then they are too young really to say 'i'm going to give that boy next door a knock to see if he wants to come and play'... the parents have to be involved on some sort of level first.
