BumbleMama I had another idea - what about ratatouille? You'd have to drain the juice off and do the crimping around the solid ingredients and then pour the juice in just before you close the crimping....but I think it would be worth the effort

    Ohhh, that sounds nice!

Nutpuff, if they'e good I'll put a pic on here and tell you exactly how long it took dh to devour one. If they're crud, I'll find a picture of an amazing one and put it on here anyway hehehe lol

I can cook most stuff really well tbh, but I've never tried a pastie. I'm quite excited!!

Thanks girlies. I ended up doing this lots hair all day today so I'm tired and dh has demanded that he cooks, but I'm definitely going to have a pastie/y making sesh later in the week. I think I might try a quorn version of an original cornish, but I'm not a huge fan tbh. It's a bit cack and flavourless. I'd far rather eat vegetables I've been since I was 10 so we didn't have quorn back then, and I just used to replace meat with mushrooms or vegetables and eat nuts, beans and eggs. I do miss it though, especially at the moment. I could murder one of those new M burgers from Maccy Ds, or a roast beef and yorkshire pud dinner!

I might try a few different types... I'll have to call them Charnwood Pasties instead of Cornish though...

    Mmmmmm... I can't wait!

    Smiling at younuttpuff

To be honest ive never made a pasty in my life as i have my nan to make them for me. But she has also said if you ever make pastry for the pasty make sure your hands are cold.

As for other pasty ideas i havent a clue.

Thers a place that does mail order pastys all you have to do is put them in the oven the website is www.barnettfare.co.uk they do a brie and canberry pasty.

Sorry not be be of much help!! Enjoy making and eating your pastys

Hi Bumblemania, just a quickie cos I'm off out in a min - but 'long' pastry is best to use, as opposed to short, as the short will just keep falling apart.  If you're going to make your own, just don't blend the fat in to the flour as much as you normally would. However, the bought shortcrust should be ok. I wouldn't recommend using bought puff pastry, it just doesn't work lol

Another idea for a filling is the vegetable one I suggested but with leek and fresh parsley.  Parsley pasties are YUM! You could also do a veg curry one? Do you like quorn? (can't stand the stuff myself - tried it out when at Slimming World and thought it was gross lol).  You could put that in in place of meat?

How about an apple and blackberry one? You could put custard in that too! Or rhubarb.  They'd be just like pies but in the shape of a pasty.

    Hope this helps

    Hello!

I just wanted to say thanks for your suggestions! Chocolate and banana sounds gorgeous, as does the vegetable one! I love swede and onion!

I had a pastie once that had strawberry and mango which was lush, but I think the shop has shut now

I've got a craving now for pasties, so I was thinking we could maybe put a few recipe ideas on here to try... But what is the best kind of pastry to use please??? I've never made pastry... Or at least not since I was 7 and in my nans kitchen!! Would it be naughty of me to use shop bought pastry?

I like the idea of leek and gruyere (bit of a change from cheese and onion at least!)

    Apple, blackberry and custard... YUM!

Sausage (vege or meat) potato, and thick red wine & onion gravy

    Bananas and custard!!!

I don't know why I've got a thing about custard in pasties!?!

Any more for any more? I'm going shopping in a bit for some goodies and I have a feeling I'll be creating some later today

    B x
