    lol Cronin!

I have even raided my parents attic and have produced the following:

My old high chair - nowt wrong with it and all it needs is a replacement screw.

All my old cloth nappies - a bit worn and scabby but will do for emergencies and puke rags!

Cot sheets (I also have sheets I never use which will be cut up and hemmed for the cot)

Cot blankets (Also have a cozy cellular blanket which I will be chopping up and hemming too)

Some old baby clothes - pink obviously so not sure yet if they will be appropriate!!

    Nappy bucket

Mum and Dad are going to be buying the buggy / travel system and may be able to get in-laws to stump up for a cot, we'll see. So in reality we're not intending spending a fortune.

We were thinking about getting a sofa bed to replace the double bed which will need to go from our spare room, but Mum came up with a better idea - to get a single with one of those beds that slides out from underneath it - that way we would already have a single bed for when the baby is ready to move from cot to bed, and it would be a good bit bigger for guests to sleep on.

There's a good thread called Best and Worst baby buys that will help too.  Have bumped it for you x

Thanks for that Ferryjane - feel better now! I didn't think newborns needed that much but sometimes I read all these things that people are buying and then think I should be buying them too!!

I already have a moses basket with stand which was just a cheapy - but the rest of the stuff you mentioned I won't be buying (wardrobe, changing table etc) as like you say they aren't 'essential'

    Phew! xx

    Hi Cherry.

We're not buying much - probably only a cot and travel system, and related bits and bobs, obviously clothes, nappies, etc.

I don't see the point in spending money we don't have on stuff that's not exactly essential see below:

    Not buying:

Moses basket: Only last a few months before baby is too big and may unsettle them going from that to a cot

Baby bath: We already have a bath! lol and no point lugging water around either before or after bath. Again - less stress getting baby used to a proper bath

Changing table ; safety reasons really - we already have a chest of drawers with plenty room in it and am not keen on changing a baby on top of something like that as it is a long way to fall once they start being more active. A bed will do fine!

Wardrobe - we already have them built in and lets face it, how many 2 month olds have full length ballgowns!? Little clothes can go fine in drawers.

Top and tail bowl - pointless when you have baby wipes or a bath.

Am just trying to practical I suppose. I'm also going to scout round the charity shops for clothes for baby as well, as you can find some lovely stuff that's either not been used or is in great condition for less than in the shops, and as along as the baby is clean, warm and well fed, you can't ask for more!

I agree Portland crib is adorable, although we now getting only the cot bed due to not wanting to swap over.

We have decided not to get a wardrobe or change table. Have a double guest bed in the babies room and don't want to give it up, so will be my changing table. And getting undercot drawer and a small cute hanging frame that saw down my local interior design store. I figure babies don't really need a wardrobe straight away.

I am getting a crib to start with and that is smaller that a cot and lasts up to 6 months.  I found a lovely white one in mothercare called a Portland Crib.

IKEA (My second home lol) has some funky stuff that's quite sturdy and good quality too - built to last. AND, its quite reasonable price wise too. Depends how handy you are with instructions and screwdriver!

We're not bothering with wardrobe (have built in ones already) or changing table because we have a perfectly good double bed to change the wee beastie on - and the bed is a lot safer than a wallopy table when they get a bit bigger.

Hi, just a suggestion but could you not lose the changing table?  I found it one of the biggest waste's of money ever.

    I have a questionMoomoo7773

thanks, ive checked all the big names like Mother care, argos, Babies R Us etc. The only range so far is from tesco direct that has the cot bed at 100cm but some other choices would be nice.

Only other option would be to lose the wardrobe all together and make up some sort of hanging device. FIL is a carpenter so feasable. Do babies really need wardrobes?

    Hi,

Does any one know of any smaller ranges of nursery furniture. All cot beds seem to be around the 140cm in length and as we have a small room (3.2M) we cant fit this in with the changing table and a wadrobe. I cant even seem to find sets with single wardrobes which may help.

    Any suggestions?

Also dont want to spend more then £800.

    Thanks
