how bizarre i was just coming on to put the exact same thread.!!!!

i have just started thinking about whether to give re-usables a go i already have a 3 year old and used disposables for him but due to money being a wee bit tighter am thinking about the other option, trouble is i have absolutely no idea how they work what you need etc etc.

so keep the suggestions and ideas coming for all of us who have no idea

I was thinking about using reuseable nappies and had looked at the Bambino mio ones. This is our first baby and although the disposables would be more conveinient I do worry about our landfill but also the size of our wheelie bin and the fact that it is only emptied once every two weeks!

Hoping to use reuseables while at home and probably disposables while out and abuot or on holiday. Have to wait and see I guess!

i used disposable with dd but might try reusable this time round. you get them in lots of funky designs and colours now and i think you also get some sort of government grant for using them and helping the world. will have to look into it

    Hi there,

Sorry - I'm gatecrashing from DIJ

I asked a very similar question on our forum: you can see the response that I got on http://my.bounty.com/forums/post/125/1614254/1/1/1/Reusable-nappies?.htm

It's interesting to see the different opinions!

I have only just stopped using our reusables (ds is 27 months and is too big for them now - he is 40lbs!!)

used them since birth with no problems, we had Motherease birth to potty - has cost us a fraction of the price of disposables and you don't have smelly nappies in the bin!!!

we will use them again for this baby, so saving us £100's in the long run. Go to www.thenappylady.co.uk for lots of advice, etc

I wanted re-usables for cost overall but dp didnt like the idea so we are going for the disposables as they are easier. We are planning to 'go green' in other ways to make up for it. Sarah & bean 18+4

Im going to use reusable nappies. I was speaking to a lady who used them for her 2 children and she said they were excellent. You buy nappy liners for approx £5.00 - maybe cheaper for 200, then the actual nappies (no need for pins etc they have velcro or poppers on them), you will need approx 8 per day, then the wraps for the outside, prob need 2-3 of these, you can get sets that last from birth to potty, i read you can save up to £700 using reusables, there is no need to soak the nappies, you flush the liner away and leave the nappies in a bin with a lid (to reduce smells you can add a few drops of tea trree oil) until you are ready to wash them i will probably buy 24 nappies so i wash every 2 -3 days, and maybe 3 - 4 liners. The lady did say not to buy the nappies until the baby is born as babies come in all shapes and sizes!

My LO is 21 months old and I have used real nappies since birth, I will be doing the same with this LO.  I am reasonably environmentaly friendly and the stats on disposible nappies are frightening.  Along with that I have saved a small fortune, I don't find them to be a hassle because I've never known anything else.  I do use degradable disposibles when I'm on holiday as washing nappies isn't always convenient.

I use disposables with ds and will be again with this baby, purely for convenience and ease but my friend uses both.  She uses the real nappies when at home and when out she uses disposable.  Speak to your mw or check on google as in our area you can get a trial pack of the real nappies to see if you want to use them x

    I have a questionitchycat

Im just after some advice and oppinions really. My partner and i are really confused over what to use. We are in two minds over wether or not to use the reusable nappies or normal disposable ones. In the long run the resuable nappies would work out a whole lot cheaper than the disposable ones but are disposable ones more practical. Really would appreciate some feed back please. xxxx
