For a cleft pallet?? thats awful!
5/10/08 11:13
i think for no medical reasons abortion should be lot lower. i watyched something on you tube showing an abortion at 12 weeks( i know shouldnt of watched it but i did) and it was awful baby trying to get away from harm made me cry. there was a case in ireland when a woman had abortion at 20 weeks as baby had cleft palate. that is awful i have this run in my family and would never get rid of one for cosmetic reasons. but everyone has there own opinions. this baby was a miracle surviving. it made me cry looking at pics

I just looked and cried!

actually crumbles there they do !!
I know someone that had an abortion at 22 weeks and the baby was TOTALLY FINE.. a little boy !!
I could cry just writing this !
I cant go into details and i dont wish too because its something i am very angry about .. but she did it .. and thats that,
We WERE ALL saying that the limit should come down for NON MEDICAL reasons and not once did we say otherwise.
Too me even 17 weeks is wrong ! but hey thats just my opinion.
I dont want to get into what i think is a MEDICAL reason for a termination ... as it will cause trouble ... but please dont jump on people for the worng reasons.. this was a discussion between all us DIF ladies .... and thats that,
Happy healthty pregnancies all
Luv Vix and bump

Thanks Linds!!!
Crumbles reply really annoyed me!!!, I think had she read the previous posts properly she would have seen that all of the posts mentioned being against terminations at 24 weeks for non-medical reasons.
I am a grown woman who takes offence to petty name calling, even if it is just on a thread, but I refuse to lower myself by retaliating.

And for the record I know a girl who had an abortion around this time for non-medical reasons in my local hospital, there was nothing wrong with her baby, she just changed her mind! she had to go through all the labour as she was that far on in her pregnancy.

Crumbletastic i feel you were a little rude in your 1st message, too imply we're retarded and immature was a bit harsh, especialy when we are discusing a subject such as this and we all have our oppinions on it.
I can certanly see what she ment by people using it as a quick fix, younger people are falling pregnant more and using things like the morning after pill as their contraseption.
I did not put an oppinion in before as my mother had an abortion and i have strong personal feelings about the subject. I simply did not feel the way you spoke to the girls was appropriat.

Just to reiterate. Abortions ARE NOT performed after 17 weeks unless for severe medical reasons. The 24 week law is there to take this into account.

As far as im aware, I think we have mainly all expressed our opinions about abortions at 24 weeks for NON MEDICAL reasons. I for one completely understand the need for it when problems are found at the 20/22 week scan.
To suggest that we are retarded is a little silly!

Hey i wasnt being ignorant, i use the term Abortion for ppl who use it as a quick get out cause they had one night stand etc n never used protection, i think for ppl who want babies and find out summat is wrong at 20 week scan then yes agree with u i dont thin it should be classed as an abortion cause the ppl actually wanted the baby but one reason or another it isnt possible. i put the limit i did cause some ppl dont find our till later on and with councelling etc takes a few weeks to sort out. xxx

That story is amazing! I do agree with most of you on here that abortion time should be lowered however I also agree with crumbletastic that some anomoly scans are very late (mine isnt til 22+1) and some peoples arent til 23wks and that option should still be there for parents if there is a serious medical reason for aborting. I do not think abortions should be allowed other than for medical reasons for the mother or baby however that must be such as hard thing to do. I just pray that everything is fine with my little bump and that i wont ever have to make such a decision.
4/10/08 17:41
I think the reason the legal limit for abortion is 24 weeks is because if any major problems with the baby are found at the 20 week scan then the option is still there.
Lovely story though x

I know there is a high level of maternal hormones running throughout all the ladies on this forum but that is no excuse for retardedness. It is very very difficult to get an abortion after 18 weeks, with lots of compulsive counselling and doctors assessments before completion, and even though the law says abortion is allowed up to 24 weeks there is only actually 1 place I think that will abort after 18 weeks. So to suggest that people are doing it for the convenience or whatever is ridiculous and immature. You dont find out til your anomaly scan, which as some of us know here can be as late at 22 weeksor so, whether your baby is severely disabled and not viable for life so how could people make the decision before then? I imagine it to be purely heart wrenching to have felt the kicks at 20 weeks and then be told your baby will be in severe pain or not vaiable to live more than an hour out of the womb at full term and i still be life wrecking to have to make the decision to end the pregnancy. Please dont use your ignornace as an excuse to judge others

I remember that story last year and the pics were amaxing.
I strongly believe that they should lower the 24week abortion i mean common other than a medical reason why would you leave it so long i could feel my bubs moving at 14 weeks! and by 24 weeks you have full on kicks so how can anyone leave it that long?
dont get me started!

OMG happytails .. i never knew you could watch things like that .... made me cry and like you could not carry on watching !
4/10/08 07:45
I am so with you .. .they should def lower the ages .. i think to 8 or 9! When i say little one wriggling about at my 13 week scan he was all there and all in tact... i cant honeslty belive the goverment let us do this !!
Find it quite hard to believe you can be put in prisson for smacking your child but you can rip a 24 week old living baby out of you it by bit !! Sorry TMI but it stinks !
Not here to judge people that do.. just a subject very close to me.

The point being that although 50% of babies can survive at 24 weeks if born prematurley, this number falls to almost zero % without medical intervention. And a lot of studies have shown that aggressive medical interventtion for under developed babies can actaully be distressing and damaging in itself to the babies, nevermind the mental deficits and problems growing up that these children can have.

Aww nice to hear a happy ending, i agree abortion limits should be lowered, can easliy turn into a debate lol, think they should go to below 20 weeks anyway prob 15-16 weeks. x

I would just like to say that I was very anti abortion.
I am the one that posted the huge long thread "my husband doesn't want this baby" weeks ago.
He tried to get me to have a termination early on. I refused. He left.
Turns out he was having a thing with one of my best friends.
I booked for a termination as I belived I could not cope with a 7 year old, a 4 year old and a newborn baby alone.
By this stage I was 16 weeks.
I didn't go through with it.
But I can see how people do. When you are desparate and alone sometimes you can't see a way out.
I am not 20 weeks and barely acknowledge the fact that I am pregnant as it is a reality that I am unable to face I know that it is there, and I feel it but I am scared of it and what my future holds.
Just wanted to say that not all life runs smoothly.

Its horrible to think women that are as far as we are into their pregnancy still want to terminate - its horrible.
Watch the silent scream on youtube (if you can) its a ultrasound of a real life abortion - i watch the first bit (when some guy explained it) and couldnt watch the rest. Poor little babies.
I think abortions should only be allowed for medical reasons and if the women was raped etc - not for unplanned pregnancies.
Ours was unplanned (sort of, id given up to focus on other things) and i could never ever get rid of my baby - i love him/her too much!
Lovely story though xxx

yep i know awful isnt it. my cousin has this and had an op to repair it and doesnt look much different to normal now. he a lovely happy little boy
