Hi, mines on Tues. It's costing £185 They've only just started doing them here (blackpool) so I'm thankful I don't have to travel.Fingers crossed everything will be ok. Do you get results there and then or do you have to wait?

Hi girls
Thanks for all info here, got my Nuchal scan on 11th in Leeds, with bloods its £195. I found out why its such a "post code lottery" in being offered nuchals on the NHS or not. NICE (the government board who review the effectiveness of medicine and procedures..the nasty people that can stop people getting life saving drugs) have come to the surprising but excellent conclusion that all women have to be offered a nuchal FOC on the NHS. However trusts round the country are taking their time in offering this, that is why some places have got there act together and others make you pay. Hopefully by the time we all have our next beans (LOL) it will be on the NHS for us.

£244 seems to be the going rate up here....obviously not everything is cheaper "up north"!! It's crazy that whether you can get it on the NHS or not depends on where you live. I really think they should offer it if you're over 35 as the age risk increases so dramatically. If it means less amnios surely it's a better thing......they can't be a much cheaper option.....

Hi, Im new and I had my scan on Tuesday. My NT measurment was 1.3mm and apparently thats good. I await my results from the bloods but wouldnt have an amnio anyway. I cant believe some people have had to pay for it!!!??? I must admit I cant fault the Isle of Wight primary care trust, because of early bleeding and origionally twins I have had about 4 scans now and they have been brilliant and because of my previous memories of a horrific birth with DD (now 9) and never knowing if it really was, or just me being a big wuss, they are now going to get my notes from up North and give me a debrief and apparently I have options!! I just thought they would tell me to "get on with it". Really pleased how well I have been treated.

We're in Oxfordshire and they are making it free on the NHS from October onwards. I'll be too far gone to wait till then (17 weeks) so we're having to pay.

Just to say I had mine yesterday (all was fine - 1.4mm) and it was free but had to got to London to King's College Hospital to have it. We live in Brighton and I think it could have something to do with my age as I'm 37, and midwife offered it. It was suggested when I was pregnant with lo 3 years ago but my sister in law had it 7 years ago and paid over £100 so we didn't bother. I have a friend who had it free at Haywards Heath (west Sussex) which is about 15 mins from me (she lives closer) but its not offered as a hospital choice. And another friend had it at East Surrey for free too! Seems very hit and miss and I can't work out why but at the end of the day, if you're worried you can't put a price on it can you? We've been very lucky.28/8/08 17:12
I am in essex too and got it free on the nhs. Measurement was 1.2mm and it was printed on the scan photo.

i am at mid essex rivers and its free for the NT scan.............for a private one its £140 that £244 seems very expensive.............but worth it i guess

should have read the link before I posted!! I thought the risk was over 5cm . . . maybe it was 5mm? even so, that appears wrong
Oops
28/8/08 14:37
WOW!! that is a huge amount of money
I'm paying £140.00 for mine with combined bloods. It amazes me the difference in price depending on what hospital/clinic you go to.
From what I've read anything over 5cm is classed as a high risk and they then look at the blood results and other factors (age, weight etc etc) and give you the odds.
I don't know what the cut off is for high risk/low risk or what the risk has to be before you can have Amnio/CVS.
Really pleased for you though

Hi, sounds like both the readings are normal and hopefully low risk. We had ours done on Tuesday (they do it on the NHS is Exeter) and I cannot see anywhere what the reading was, should of asked but was so busy wriggling to get baby into position for a reading! Is it written on your notes somewhere? Will look at mine when I get home. Lucie xxx28/8/08 11:13
great minds lol!
I had to read it all first to make sure it wouldn't be too scary! I found something a while back that would have just panicked the person who asked the question, so kept it quiet!

haha snap!!

that is a lot of money, but for peace of mind it's worth it. i'm 33 so i might ask the midwife when i see her next.
28/8/08 11:02
I have no idea what is normal, and what isn't. Keeping everything crossed for you

We had to pay to have it done privately. The midwives aren't supposed to tell you about private tests which I think is rubbish! It can only be done up to 14 weeks, but I think there is a Nuchal Fold scan which can be done later. I was concerned due to my age (nearly 37) so we opted ot have it done. It cost £244 for the combined scan and blood test, but it was money well spent IMHO!

Hi Nikki,
You will have to check. I got my results straight away, but I guess it depends on the clinic. I had my blood test a week before the scan.
Good luck! Let us know how you get on!
