I might end up with a section again but if not I wont be writing a birth plan as it never goes to plan! I said that I didn't want an epidural (this was before I knew what contractions felt like!) I cried & begged for an epidural when I got to the hospital lol they are great & highly recommend them so after 27 hours in labour I ended up with a c-section! Just go with the flow is my advice to any first timers xx

im using my same birthplan as last time. the only thing i will refuse is pethidine, too many side effect risks. but if you have a student midwife you are likely to get better care as they are a lot more willing to listen to your wishes etc.

lol at nicky killing your own mother.  I kwum though about that pain i never had a birth plan with any of mine we kind of went with the flo first ds i hadnt a clue what was happening and tried to be so tough going yeah i can take it.  I threw myself on the ground twice just wanting to die lol.  I couldnt take gas it made me sick.  2nd ds i had a trainee midwife and she was lovely the other mw was a real grouch and kept trying to move me over on the bed and she was insistent baby wasnt ready to come and went of on her tea she had to be brought back by the nurse in charge hahahaha see you should listen to us we know r bodies.  dh never got a choice about cutting ds2's cord as trainee mw just cut it we never really worried about it .

My plan for this one is it goes as easy as last two

My birth plan said dh did not want to cut the chord (no choice with the section anyway) and I wanted to be told the baby's sex (which they didn't do for ages and the student mw had to seeing I was getting upset).

This time it would insist the baby is put on my chest straight away which they refused last time and really affected me (unless of course something was wrong with baby). Apart from that I'm open to anything

As far as my friends were concerned my birth plan was to cough twice and it'll all be over! (they all stopped laughing when i gave birth in 3 hours ha ha ha!!!) My Mw helped me and dp to write OUR birth plan, it was just an outline really of in an ideal world i'd like it if...... my mw did explain that it wasn't written in stone and i can change my mind at any time.  Originally i wasn't going to have the injection to help birth the placenta but about a week before i changed my mind, aslo dp really didn't want baby to have the injection of vitamin K - he thought it was mean to give baby an injection after they've been through so much already (bless him) so it was on my birth plan that she was to be given the vit K orally. Also he did want to cut the cord, but didn't necessarily want to see much at the business end when it was all happening! The midwife who helped me deliver was fab she sat there reading our birth plan while dp was assiting me with breathing etc, she didn't really talk to me she just coached dp on what he should be doing and saying. think my birth plan this time will be " i'll have it exactly the same as last time please!!" Mmm dream on me!

One thing I would say to first timers, do not rule anything out in your birth plan. No one knows how they will cope until the time comes. I put in mine that I wanted to try and cope without an epidural... they took it as gospel and I was refused one repeatedly despite pleading, begging and trying to knock myself out by banging my head. I was scared of them before hand and really didn't want one, in the throes of labour I would have killed my own mother to get one, and all the things that worried me about them seemed ridiculously insignificant when I would have rather died than have the pain for one more minute.

I would honsetly suggest putting that you will decide your pain relief options at the time and want your wishes to be followed. You can refuse pain relief easier than you can convince them to give it (in my experience)

For second timers I think its important to outline what went well last time (and you want to be repeated) and say what you did not like last time and state that you do not want it this time.

I am honestly not trying to scare anyone, but I wish I wish I wish to this day someone had told me to do that, maybe just maybe I wouldn't have the trauma and fear that meant it took me 3 years to even begin to feel able to face it again (I firmly believe had I had more pain relief last time I would have had another lo much much earlier)

I did a birth plan for my last.  My labour didnt go to plan so not much of it was used, however they did pay attention to the bits that they could do, like i requested that DH and I were left alone for 15 mins after the birth. And that I wanted the vitamin K injection for baby, and that I wanted assisted delivery of the placenta etc.  I felt a lot happier knowing it was all on paper, and DH just had to worry about me rather than trying to remember what it was that I wanted etc!  Well worth doing, it doesnt take long!!!  If anyone wants the format of mine then msg me xxx

waste of time in my opinion....  i wrote that chris did not want to cut the cord (which he didn't) and they went on and on at him after she was born asking him.... he didn't want to do it!!! Leave him alone!!!!

I wrote in mine that i would be open to anything and guided by the experts, that i wanted a water birth. My first midwife said to me, give me a brief out line, I don't have time to read this!!!!! (She also dismissed the bit of paper that chris had be obidenitly writing the time of the contractions down on, as advised to do so by the hospital staff when he phoned up to see at what point i should go in! In fact she told him that she didn't have time to read that paper and what a waste of time and paper it was!)

my next one is going to say I WANT AN EPIDURAL ASAP PLEASE!!! IM NOT WAITING THREE CHUFFING HOURS AGAIN!!!

I thought that that was what birth plans were for!  Telling them what you DON't want rather than what you DO...!  (cynical, yes, but true sometimes)

I had birth plans with both previous pg - I was pretty much open to everything, within reason - this time, I'm adamant I want to do the same as last time, except the repeated hospital visits for 4 weeks until the induction before due date.  I've already told the consultant in no uncertain terms that I DO NOT want to be in and out of hospital when they could just give me drugs for high bp instead of this "wait and see if it comes down" approach which just doesn't work with me!  LOL
