I agree that there are loads of mixed messages about what's safe and what's not concerning alcohol. I just think that whatever I drink is going straight to baby so prefer to stick with the no alcohol rule. However, if I did have one glass on a special occasion I'm not gonna beat myself up about it. And I don't think badly of anybody who does.

It's funny cos I now live in Southern Italy and my doctor here says I can have one glass of wine a day! (Completely different to what the british government says!) And whenever I'm out and people notice I'm not having a drink they find it strange.

I too had a very boozy birthday weekend the weekend before I found out I was pregnant, but there's not much i can do about it now so no point worrying!

I had a very small glass of wine one Friday night and I got soooo giggly and light headed straight after I got scared so staying away from it now!

Although I think on Christmas day I am going have a glass of champagne and a glass of wine with lunch - it is Christmas afterall!

My mum was told to drink Guiness all the way through being pregnnat with me and my brothers - for the iron!! Nothing wrong with us (apart from being a bit daft!)

heya - i've probably had maybe 5 glasses of wine since I found out I was pg - but all after I've got past 12 weeks. I had a glass of champagne last week and have got a very big party weekend (friend's wedding and dp's 30th) so will def be havign a couple of glasses of something over the weekend/ We're also off on holiday in November so will have some then too, and def over xmas and NY if i feel like it.

When I had dd 10 years ago - we were told that we could drink a couple of glasses a week! I certainly didn't have that much but def had a few glasses over the pg. With ds it was one glass a week and i don't think I had hardly any - but i did get quite tipsy one night when we were on holiday in Cyprus and I was 32 weeks. We were in an Italian restaurant and they kept topping up my glass as in Europe pg women tend to drink quite a lot so they thought nothing of it. I was in "non-pg" mode and must have had two or three goblets - oops! Felt really tipsy after hardky any drinking in seven months and felt terribly guilty afterwards but luckily he was ok - and i didn't drink anything after that (I don't think!)

I certainly won't be having more than one glass in a day during this pg, but don't think one or two a week on very special occasions can do that much harm - it's just a personal choice I think...I tend to only drink red wine socially anyway and maybe the odd glass of bubbly.

    xx

No matter where you look or who you talk to there's always mixed messages about what you can and can't do but at the end of the day, so long as you don't go and get drunk, one glass will not hurt, but that's my opinion.  My cousin drank probably one drink a week and her baby is healthy and fine.

I have had 2 small glasses of wine - One when I was at the airport saying goodbye to my family (we've just relocated to Singapore) and the 2nd was on a recent weekend trip we went on. I wil no doubt have a glass at Xmas and New Year but that will be it.

I intend to breast feed so will get a pump so I can express milk on the days I want to have a drink.

Before I found out I was pregnant, OH MY GOD!  I had such a boozy weekend I was so worried about what damage I had done to my baby.

I have had one glass of wine since finding out it was on our anniversary. I had a few drinks when i was preggers with my first because at the time a few units was ok. Now though they have changed the advice again and now its none. I will prob have a glass xmas day and new years eve but thats my lot. I dont really see any harm with the one glass on very special occasions but thats just my opinion and i know its not what they recommend. Like i say though apart from the above occasions i wont bother with it. I never really drank that much before anyway.

i'm not drinking at all in this pregnancy. when i got pg with ds, i was very drunk twice before i found out i was pg (it was around my bday so that's why i remember i was drunk!) me and dp were so worried about FAS and then saw a programme on tv about it which made our fears worse! they showed the effect a drink had on the foetus and it was pretty scary. so this time i'm not drinking at all (even though ds was and is perfectly healthy).

I had the very odd glass with DD but his time around i'm not going to touch any if i can help it (it's very hard!!!), with there being two in there i just feel that it's risky enough if you know what i mean.

one unit of alcohol is what doctors say you can have if you choose. that is only 125ml of wine. that is smaller that what is served in the majority of restaurants/pubs. for me personally the risks associated with drinking alcohol when pregnant is to great!

Has anyone had a drink since becoming pregnant.  I did the first few weeks before I found out but haven't since.  I'm on holiday this week and will probably go out for a few meals and am wondering whether to have a glass of wine.  I know the guidelines are none at all and I generally won't be drinking but feel like having one glass of wine as a treat!
