I would contact the new employer and tell them straight away, as they can't take the offer back and you are entitled to have time off for maternity appointments etc so they should be aware of that. Goodluck X

Hi
Ive been looking into the maternity pay thing because I had applied for my dream job too, i havent heard anything back so im not worrying at the mo......
Anyhow - if you are in a new job and dont qualify for SMP you might qualify for maternity allowance which is the same amount and paid for same amount of time but it comes via the job centre rather than your new job. The only thing you need to think about is if your current job offers a good top up to your SMP. My job doesnt so i would have been happy to take the MA rather than the SMP and been in a job i wanted to do. Have a look at www.direct.gov.uk
Im having an extra look into this because my company maternity benefits say i get paid for 26 weeks but the above website says 39 weeks............ guess im gonna have to tell them at some point and work out what is right (you would think that the govenments webside would be wouldnt you...)
Personally I think you should tell them up front, if you have been offered the job they cant retract the offer because your pregnant else they could find themselves with a court case on their hands.
Congratulations by the way!!!!! on the baby and the job!!!! Let me know what you decide to do.

Well... a few problems really!! You could say I have issues!! My husband and I seperated in March after hitting a rocky patch that turned sour, and we only recently decided to patch things up and give our marriage another go, so, yeh, um, oops! And to add insult to injury i've just been offered my dream job... So now I have the dilemma, do I stay at my current job and be miserable and stressed out for the remainder of my pregnancy and get full maternity pay... or do I take my new job, be happy, but only take SMP? And if I do take the new job do I tell them from day dot that I am expecting? Soooo confused!! Congrats to everyone who is expecting by the way xxx

dont tell them were all only a few weeks just wait a while and at least wait after the "12 weeks" and if the ask why not tell them right away say ur nervous about bump and if they even try to kick up a stink about u leaving on maternity u can take them to court i am assuming as it is ur dream job you will be going back after 8 -12 months anyway!
