Most people have never heard of it, Its virus that alot of people have but dont even know what they have as would just feel unwell, it can also give you red cheeks-hence red cheeks. Most people have had it and didnt know and you cant catch it again. If you work with children (like me) the chances are v high that you have already had it at some point. It can be harmful if you havent had it and you come into contact with it whilst pregnant.

Hiya, sorry, am gatecrashing from PDIO. I am a teacher and was also exposed to slapcheek, and was very relieved to find my blood tests showed that I was immune. The same happened to 2 other teachers I know, and they were both immune too.

Just wanted to warn you that the bloods take a while to come back - think mine took 2 weeks. GP told me they would only be a couple of days, and when they took longer he said don't worry, I'll hurry them through - turns out he knew nothing - they have to take a while because they have to wait to check for reactions, which can take up to 2 weeks. I was not able to work during this time (policy is anytime before 20 weeks pregnant) - I had a great employer who was quick to check the guidelines and follow them to the letter, but other people had a bit more of a struggle with their employers.

Please make sure you check - I don't know where you would find out, obviously the systems are different from schools. It's important that you don't get exposed to anymore potential cases, just in case you are not immune (although, as you said, you probably are!) I discovered that lots of GPs don't know much about it, although mine was happy to sign me off once I told him that he had to!!

    Hth x

Hi, I came into contact with this in my first pregnancy, as i worked in a school. I had my bloods done and they found had already had it. They said because have always been in contact with children they would be shocked if i hadnt picked it up, like you was a nanny, taught in nursery school and primary school. Try not to worry but know is hard!,sure will be fine! xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I have been in contact with a little girl whom has Parvovirus (slapped cheek)

60% of adults have had it but never known. I dont know if i have had it, but the chances are high given my job. (nanny)

I am having my bloods done on Mon.

Has anyone had this or come into contact with it whilst pregnant?

    What was the outcome?
