I use to work in a pharmacy which done pregnancy testing. I asked my pharmacist about this one day and basically all pregnancy tests test for the pregnancy hormone. If its present you are pregnant. There is no such thing as a false positive. You can get a false negative as you may have teste too early for the test to pick up the hormones but not a false positive. BUT i do say this as i have experienced it myself. There is such a thing as a chemical pregnancy. Basically you test around the day you are due get a positive then a few days later you have your period. Many people then think oh the test is wrong its not wrong its basically that conception has taken place but implantation hasn't occured and your body has not carried on with the pregnancy. Its only the recent years more and more women are having this occur because of the fact tests can be used so early now. This happened to me and the sad thing is it is not recognised by the medical proffession as a misscariage. I had this happen 2 months before i got pregnant this time. I tested the day i was due on and got a pos only to have my period 2 days later. Its an awful thing to get summit like that in your head and then for it to be taken away.

Now my doc recommended to me that when i miss a period to only test once a week has gone by so i dont get disapointed again and i would tell others to do the same as its all very well these companies saying their tests can be used from 2 days before a period is due etc etc cos they make money that way but its not worth going through what i went through.

    Sorry so long ladies.

The NHS have done an evalutaion report on over the counter hpt's and their findings on Asda hpts showed that Asda hpt's test 10mIU - 25mIU even though on the box it says 25mIU.

I personally found tescos hpts to be spot on

Asda tests have always given me a clear result, when other tests were really faint I would get a nice strong +tive on an asda's own brand, so for the price I think they're great x

    Congratulations x

i agree with mummyannie. They can't give false positives. The only thing that can happen is a false negative, you did the test wrong, or you read it wrong. If you're unsure hun then get a different brand. Clearblue digital is the easiest to read, or go to the docs and ask them to test you. HTH Ellie 13+1 x
