I also work in Hr/payroll & agree that does sound very fishy. You don't usually extend probationary periods, you either keep or fire. Have you signed anything if so check what you have signed.

Hi Pinky
It seems a bit odd that they want to extend your probation just for that. Normally they would have had to give you a warning etc to justify it. May be an idea to take some advice from the Labour Relations Agency

hi well i started my job on the 4th august and was on a 3month probation well 3months was up and now they said they want to extend it because i asked for the afternoon off when my dd was really ill one afternoon and i ended up going in because they said they needed me and i got my mum to watch her to me i feel like there doing it because i'm pregnant and don't want to risk me taking loads of time off with it and me being under contract they said my works great and thats the only reason abit of a s*** one i think because i said in my interview that my dd would always come 1st and they agreed rant over i feel upset and don't know why xxxxxxxxxxx

thanks ladies i was beggining to think i was being over emotional i'm really good at my job and to be told my probation period is extended because i asked if i could take the afternoon off i rang first thing in the morning and when they said they needed me i came in even though my dd had a temperature and was clinging to me so to me i did what i could they couldn't cover so i came in i don't feel like i want to be here now but i need the money the letter i signed says i've been given an extented probation because they couldn't decide whether i was reliable or not in the 3months so need more time and that they can fire me at any time etc xxxxxxxxxxx
