i think the test at booking appointment is to find your blood group and to test for things like if you've had rubella jab or have hepatitis hiv etc (hiv test is optional) then the test at 12 week scan is to do with the down's syndrome test i'm same hate blood tests was given forms to go for them 2 weeks ago haven't found courage to go yet! With last pg nurse asked how i was going to cope with labour as i was so bad with blood tests lol :-) -

Does anyone know if they only test for certain things (that you are told about before hand). If there was anything else wrong with you would they detect this in the blood test or would they have to specificaly test for it?
I know this is burrying my head in the sand but if there is anything else wrong with me other than baby related I don't know how I would cope with this during pregnancy.
I have my scan tommorow and am a nervous wreck at the moment.

I am also terrible with blood tests. Yesterday at my scan i had to have them done and i waiting with my ticket and after 45 minutes only 3 people had been in. I complained to reception as this was at 2.30pm and i had been at the hospital since 10.30am having all of the tests done. When i complained apparently it was because all three of those people had fainted which i found hard to believe but then i was even more anxious about having mine done. I finally got in there and had them done and i was sick afterwards (as i always am!) but they were not bad at all. I had my plaster on my arm to show my war wound too for sympathy last night. xx -

well i didn't mind needles or giving blood untill i fell pg with dd and they took blood all the time that i just hate it now i get really scared but i'd rather know everything was okay so i close my eyes and have it done but if you've already given bloods you shouldn't have more at the scan have they said what there for? xxxxxxx

I thought it was just me. I haven't had a blood test since I was a kid and I am totally dreading it. I am more nervous about that than I am for my scan. Does anyone know whether you get your blood tests after your scan? I would rather get my scan out of the way first.

I'm the same - don't mind having injections at all and have a tattoo but the tattoo was done in Thailand with a bamboo stick so it's slightly different. Nearly passed out having that done also though! lol

i think you have them done abt 2/3 times in pregnancy, but now they have it taken for the combined test too so, i'd say 3-4, that's unless they call you for repeat tests, like they did to me! i had having blood taken too, feel like im being drained!

Well I don't know about that! But I'm not looking forward to my next set of bloods. Couldn't believe they had to take 4 vials of blood from me! My df looked as white as a sheet when he was watching! lol x

Hi hannie. Bless ya - I feel exactly the same. Didn't have bloods done at my booking appointment - had to have them done today and I really had to focus so that I didn't pass out! I didn't think you'd have to have bloods done at both appointments. I was told today that I'd only have to have them done again at 28wks. Maybe it's different compared to where you live...

Hi All,
I really really hate blood tests, to the point i cry and cry lol
So, i had a blood test at my booking appointment last week but now im reading about blood tests at first scan?!
Can anyone tell me when we have blood tests and how many we are likely to have during the duration of a "normal" pregnancy?
Thanks Ladies xxx
