Hi Marksey
I got the info from my textbooks and a paper I wrote on the subject as I am a childrens nurse. the best advice for building up immune system is the same for any child a well balanced diet and if you feel they need an extra boost then abidec vitamin drops but really they shouldnt need this. unfortunatley when babies get infections it does tend to take them longer to build themselves back up again. I will have alook to see if there are any websites that you will be able to access with out being a healthcare professional. but the only other thing i can suggest is chatting to GP. I do understand where you are coming from as my nephew is ill every month after he nearly died at 6 weeks from being lactose intolerant. and now catches everything and anything. How old is your friends LO as babies immune systems are always very fragile in the first 6 months this is why weaning isnt recommmended until then.

Elaine
If the blood test comes back that he needs immunoglobulins (someone elses anti bodies) this is normally a permanaent thing that happens every month and will be done in hospital on an overnight stay I have seen children and been involved in the care of children having this. it also depends which cell of the immune system is affected. sorry I cant be of more help but if you have any specific questions do email me jeninemac@hotmail.com and put immune system question oin title bar and I will help as much as I can.
Good luck for the results of the other blood test do let me know how you get on
Hugs Jenine and Max xx

Firstly I will start with Bronchiolitis which is predominantly triggered by RSV (Respiratory syncitial virus we are coming into what paediatric nurses call "bronchi season" now. there isnt any treatment for bronchiolitis only supportive measures when the baby may need humidified oxygen therapy and some cases feeding by a tube this is only temporary though so baby can fight the infection and not use energy struggling with feeding. 2-3 % of all infants are admitted to ospital with the virus during the annual epidemic 90% are aged 1-9 months. Bronchiolitis is rare after 1 year off age
Low immune systems are more trickier to explain and there are several types. Elaine can you give me any more info. will post more info shortly xx

Sorry to hear about your bubba hun, my Summer hasnt had anything that serious thank goodness, but she's had a tummy bug and 3 colds and she's only 8 weeks old. I get so angr when the nurses are constantly putting off her injections cos there's something wrong with her, as we need to sort the problem not leave it\!!

*** class="comment">hi i just wondered if anyone else had come across this problem, my little boy is 10 weeks old and he first had a uti at 2 weeks unfortunatly this was not treated properly by his peaditrician and he ended up developing e-coli and septis and is currently being treated with oral antibiotics at home to prevent viral meningitis.
all in all we have spent 4 and a half weeks in hospital with him and tests show his kidneys seem to be working normally although he is slow to empty his bladder, he also had blood tests which show that his immune system does not work properly and he may need to be injected with someone elses antibodies to boost this, we are waiting on the results of another blood test to prove this
i was just wondering if anyone else had come across anything like this? its been a very confusing and upsetting time and i cant seem to find much info on this
thanks
