I wouldn't worry too much as measuring with a tape provides no definitive as to size, only a guide. The only true way to check growth for dates is to scan. My bump has never been measured with a tape, the consultant feels by hand.

apparantly doing it with your hands is the old way they used to do it - mine did it both ways last time to show and they were pretty much the same - i guess it depends when they were trained as to how they prefer to do it x

mine are measured and put on a graph in the middle of green notes as well. she also has a feel to se what way up he is, dead quick and quite reassuring. why not get the tape measure out at home and see what is says?

    I'm really surprised by this.

mine has a poke and a feel and measures fundal height with a tape measure, she also does some sideway measurments and diagonals to check her height measurement, then she plots it ion to a pre-printed graph which shows a min, average, and maximum expected growth curve. This is somewhere in the middle of my green notes, it was added by the hospital at my first scan (10 weeks-ish) and was calculated to included my then weight and height. My notes have a description of what the midwife is doing when she measures, how she measures and how she will plot the measurements. Measurements and the graph start at 24 weeks (and go to 42) and mine have been done fortnightly since then.

Just goes to show how different care can be in different areas.

ive never been measured with a tape measure, they just feel the the way the baby is.On my notes they just put the number of weeks i am in the fundal height column, they do this when i get checked at the hospital as well. i had a scan at 33 weeks and got told the baby is large and ive got to go for a growth scan at 37 weeks but the midwifes just say its a nice size. i dont tend to take much notice of midwifes anymore.

Hiya, my midwife always just pokes about with her hands too. She writes =D in the box for fundal height which stands for equals dates. I just assume she knows what she's feeling!
