I can't imagine how stressful this must have been for you both. Sophie is a very strong little girl, she has proved that by fighting this battle each day, and she obviously gets this strength from her mummy and daddy. I was so glad to hear that she had improved each day and when I heard yesterday that she was able to come home with you, I was over the moon. Enjoy these early days at home, treasure each moment, and enjoy being a mummy!
n (((((HUGS))))) to you all xxx17/8/08 14:06
Sounds like Sophie is a fighter to have got through this so far and you must be exhausted!! I remember what the first night home was like with Emma - she is so small that its difficult to see her breathing so when she was too quiet we would find ourselves prodding her to make sure that she was still OK...!!
emma had a brain scan too as she was premature - she had a cyst in the spongy part of her brain and it was bleeding - when she was 3 weeks she was discharged from SCBU and it had stopped bleeding and we have to go for another scan in september to see if it is still OK - but I am determined not to let it worry me too much now as I cant do anything to change it....
Congratulations on making it home together and welcome to non stop nappies and washing!!

first of all, thank you so much for all your support, thoughts and prayers over this very difficult time. I am over whelmed by all your support and it really means a lot! I will try and fill you in on what happened as briefly as i can:
I had a very quick labour at 38+1. My contractions started as little as 2 mins appart and in total labour lasted about 4 hours.Sophie was born with some mucas in her lungs and they took her to special care to monitor her for 24 hours until it cleared. However, within that time she had a little trouble clearing it and aspirated a little into her lungs. Because her lungs were a little immature and she was crying it caused a small hole in her lung. The docs didnt realise this at the time so tried to give her oxygen through a bag/mask. This meant all the air was being forced into the good lung which caused it to puncture also. This then caused her to arrest and she need ressusitated. At this time they told us to expect the worse and they didnt think she would make it. She was transferred to Edinburgh for specialist care and fully ventilated. She made progress each day and and now we have out precious little girl home with us.
I have tried to write this as briefly as possible as its such a complicated series of unfortunate events that i could go on and on forever with all the details. Because she was unconcious for some time and needed ressucitated the doctors did a brain scan which looked normal but they have warned us that the full effects of what she has been through will not be known until she starts to develop. We feel quite optimistic that all will be ok as she is acting like a 'normal' new born and feeding well. Sleeping not as good.......... but i hear thats normal!!! ;p
We are now home and enjoyed our first night as a family but its still an anxious time for us. I cant take my eyes off her but each new day gives us more reassurance and confidence.
Thank you again for all your support, I will try and get up to date with whats been happening in here, who has had their precious little bundles and who is still waiting.......
to all and

Hi Laura - glad Sophie is well and home with you and Jon!!! Hope she is not causing too many sleepless nights!! speak soon Helen & bump xxx
