Hi guys, it's been a week today since my little angel arrived but finding the time to get online has been tricky, can't think why!!! I went into hospital for induction on Friday 26th at 9am, where they strapped me up to the monitors to check baby's heart, after a couple of hours of waiting because they were so busy, they gave me my first lot of Prostin gel and left me to see what happened next... I was encouraged to stay active and get things going so we walked round the carpark and within an hour or so contractions started. At first 5 minutes apart but by 4pm I was 2-3 minutes apart and not loving it, couldn't speak when they kicked in. They did an internal and although the contractions were good I wasn't dilating, only 2cms. All I had was paracetamol and then around 6:30 we remembered I had a tens machine so thought we'd give it a try and it definitely took the edge off things. Still hadn't dilated by the time of my next check but the pain was immense and I started on gas and air around 11pm. THey also let me have a nice hot bath to ease the pain but had by now said a water birth was not going to be possible for me as the baby's heartbeat was low and not responding well to contractions. I was gutted but it was best for baby. The pain was so awful and I still wasn't dilating so one of the midwives sat me down and talked me through my fears of an epidural as she felt it would potentially be the best thing for me, at this point my fear disappeared and all I could ask was would they be able to get it in before the next contraction kicked in (2 mins apart still) We raced from maternity ward to labour ward and I had the epidural at around 3am- BLESSED RELIEF!! - From that point on everything went from hell to heaven and the labour was a total breeze. They broke my waters 20 mins after the epidural and turns out I'd gone to 5 cms, and things were progressing nicely. I then relaxed and made Rick (hubby) take a nap in the day room while we waited - I even updated my profile on facebook via my mobile - that was how incredible the epidural was!!! They checked me at 7:15 and I was fully dilated so they said to have a nap for an hour to conserve my energy and then at 8:30 I started pushing, we had a scary moment when the heartbeat dropped off completely with the first push, and there was talk of a c-section but my little girl picked up and off we went. It was tricky not being able to feel anything, had to try and remember where muscles were but we managed it and 2 hours later Molly Nora Harwood tumbled out with the cord wrapped round her neck three times (hence the erratic heratbeat apparently) There was meconium in the waters but she was fine and perfect in every way. She was born on the 27th September at 10:32 am weighing 7lb 13oz. I am the happiest girl on the planet Piccies should be on my profile.
