as lilchick said it is the withdrawal symptoms which are the main concern in baby.. the last trimester is a particular time to avoid taking it or if you can limit the amount you take.. or even better paracetamol.. but I am sure you have tried that and it didn't touch the pain?

    found this on netdoctor

"Paracetamol is not known to be harmful when used during pregnancy. However, the safety of codeine has not been established. If codeine is used in the third trimester it may cause withdrawal symptoms in the baby after birth. As a result, this medicine should be used with caution during pregnancy, and only if the expected benefit to the mother outweighs any potential risk to the infant. Seek medical advice from your doctor."

I'm in the same boat.  I have my wisdom teeth coming through and have half finished root canals that they won't finish so I find that 1 co-codamol works ok in a day.

Thanks for all your replys its very confusing, its just that this is getting too much to take.  I lost part of the tooth a few weeks ago but not had any pain up until now.  Paracetamol did not work at all yesterday so did'nt bother to take any more but I need something.

Co-codamol IS safe to take while preg.

I am on it for my SPD.

The main side effect you have to watch out for is constipation.  That and only 8 a day.

I've been prescribed them for migraine.  They are the ones that are paracetamol and co codomol (capate?) on a max of 8 a day, but I've never taken more than 4 in a day.

They can have problems with co codomol dependance in baby when they are born if you are taking it 8 a day everyday.  They basically go through cold turkey

I only take it if I have to and can't cope with the day (and children) when I have a migraine.  If I take 2 at the first sign then I don't need to take more, but if I wait and see I often need more.

I would say see your doctor and follow their advice, because as you can see here, the advice is very different.

I hope you feel better soon,

    Sarah x

I'm confused now then!  I was prescribed them with ds for sciatica and been given them again this time for the same reason by the doctor!  I know I was told you can't take them whilst bf as I had to switch to smething else, but pregnancy was fine!

hmm, I think it's one to avoid as it has codeine - think safe to stick with paracetemol...
