I never swaddled my ds coz he hated being restricted but was a fantastic sleeper and slept thru from 7wks, just to let you know that not all babies like it. Plus my ds loved to sleep on his side, when he was in hosp the nurses took him for a night for me as i hadnt slept fro over 48hrs and they put him on his side. when we got him home id lay him on his back but he always rolled onto his side so i started putting him on his side, mw went mad but i ignored her as ds did it on his own anyway, you will learn to know what your baby likes better than anyone else x

We just used a small think blanket last time and will be doing the same this time round. It definately helped her sleep/settle better.

We just used a cot size flannelet sheet for DD1, it works just the same, she was a big baby and we were able to swaddle her right upto about 4 months in the flannelet.

Oh...also, you can get regular flat cot sheets in flannelet as well.  A little more dear...but not by too much.

The best way I have found to wrap a baby.

Lay sheet on the floor/bed/sofa with the corners like a diamond ( one pointing to you, one away, one to the left, one to the right.

Fold the top corner over ( about half way to the side corners).

Lay baby on it, shoulders just below the top edge, head out of the blanket.

Pull blanket over the shoulders straight down the length of the body ( arms covered, but body not).

Pull up bottom of blanket over the feet, dont pull tight, but dont leave loose either, you will have to keep the bottom corner from covering bubs face, fold it over.

Fold over one side, tucking flat under bubs body on the other side, nice and tight, you may have to hold the arm down until its tucked under.  Slightly rolling bubs on its side helps with the tucking.

Fold over the last side, pulling snug, and wrapping all the way round bubs back.

    One wrapped baby.

It takes practice, but it wont take long and you will be a pro.

In the USA we used receiving blankets to swaddle.

They are made from a flannelet material.

We didn't have 'fancy' blankets for this when I had my oldest 3.

You can order them from the USA, or do what I do and buy a flat flannelet sheet and cut it to size and hem the edges.

What makes it so great for swaddling is that the material 'sticks' to itself rather then slide.

Bit of spamage here....but if anyone wants this type of blanket but cant sew, I would be more then happy to make some.  Just pick up a king size flannelet sheet in the color of your choice post it to me and I can cut it  and hem it for a fiver plus postage back to you.  You will get 4 blankets.

lol sammy swaddlin is basically wrappin em up tight in a blanket with their arms tucked inside too so they feel like they are still inside the womb, helps them settle soo much easier

    I have 3 in total!

1 to use, 1 spare and 1 to wash!

    So that would be plenty!

Thanks, have just had a look, they look really easy to use which is always good, how many do you think we will need? I was thinking 3, we already have 1 swaddle me blanket that DH picked up, so that would be 4 altogether.

You can use normal one but I bought Swaddle me wraps, they are great!

Best place for them was the US, will take about 10 days for delivery!

We have decided to swaddle lo, can we use any blankets or do we have to buy the special swaddling ones? If we do have to buy them, does anyone know where we can get some that aren't too pricey?
