i read that having a curry is a myth as all hot spicy food will do is give you the trotts and that in itself won't bring labour on. If you have spicy food, get the trotts and labour starts it probably is just a coincidence as most women get an upset tummy before labour starts.11/10/08 11:13
I have read reports that do link drinking castor oil and baby pooing, I was also told this by my midwife, so I personally wouldn't want to risk it, however if you feel its safe then go ahead and do it. I also wouldn't want to risk having seriously bad cramps and dioreah running to the loo every 2 mins.

Gonna just put the butter back now!
11/10/08 11:02
lmao Bn4 that has to be a wind up
11/10/08 10:59
i think (and dont quote me) that its not the castor oil as a main that can be dangerous its what it does.
basically it can make you contract suddenly and this can put stress on the baby and then the baby can poo and swallow it which can lead to a lot of problems.
ok it can happen anyway. when they broke my waters with cade they saw he had pooped and i was taken upstairs to be monitored and give birth up there as they had all the equipment on that ward
it did scare me a bit especially when he brought it up not long after birth. for that reason i wouldnt risk castor oil because it can cause the baby stress.

I dunno!
Another minging one I read about was sticking butter up ya foo, apparently it makes the cervix soften and prob baby slide out!
Not sure if it was a wind up!

you'd need to take te equivalent of what 4, 5ml spoonfulls, right lets go on a mission to see how many ml are in each capsule lol
11/10/08 10:56
Guess so if you take enough of them!
11/10/08 10:54
do the castor oil capsules work the same way Bn4?
11/10/08 10:52
You can buy castor oil capsules!
But apparently it works with all oils!
The way I see it....
Baby is fed through your blood stream and oils cannot be absorbed into the blood in that way and therefore wouldnt pass to the baby! But will give you the trots!

there is nothing to link castor oil to baby pooing in the womb, some midwives suggest it some advise against it, if your brave enough to give it a try and can stand the taste then i really dont see what harm it can do

Hi gatecrashing from DID... I did all sorts when expecting my dd, sweeps, curries, hot chilli sauce, pineapple (I've heard since, you need to eat something like 10 fresh ones a day), RLT, sex, speed bumps even BJ's( yes prob TMI) apparantly the effects are better if injested. The only one I didn't try was castor oil, It it can be extremely dangerous as it can make baby poo then if baby swallows the amniotic fluid with the meconium in it can cause all sorts of probs. DD was 16 days overdue and I was induced, she only came when they broke my waters. Lo will only come when ready.

lol ur a lucky 1 then keeley,if only it worked for everyone eh...ive had loadsa curries and even had sex a few times but nothings doin the job for me

ive found the thing about mixing sex and whatnot together, its by some journalist in the guardian so probs just her opinion im not too sure?!
Curry, by the way, only works as an alternative to sex. If you have a curry and then sex, neither of them work. Likewise, curry and pineapple, since cooking the pineapple destroys the enzyme. If you had the pineapple as a raw garnish, that would work, but since you need to eat quite a lot of pineapple, it would have to be a huge curry. Pineapple and sex work fine together.Hmm...I think there all aload of rubbish really...i suppose they do work for some people..but more often tend not to work..

11/10/08 09:29
i dont fancy either of them.... i have germaloids or dulcoease.... i wonder if dulcoease works thats a stool softener ...........hummmmmmm
11/10/08 09:27
m2b, i had sex that day too
and still happened lol - luckily i had bought my pram and cot earlier on that day aswell!11/10/08 09:26
I was reading some proper ming stuff last night too!
Apparently an enema or coloric irigation can cause labour too!
11/10/08 09:26
I think n matter what you do, your body won't go into labour until its close to happening anyway. I tried everything last time, had sweeps from 38 weeks and still did't go into labour until 18 days over. For some women, even hospital inductions fail because their bodies/babies simply are not ready and there is jack you can do about it.
11/10/08 09:24
haha awww id be gutted after all that!! lol apparently you should only do one or the other like sex and pineappe not sex n curry (i think it is) as the hormones from the sperm cancels out the job that the currys suppose to do or something?! im not sure what is it like which ur not suppose to do together but read it somewhere...lol not much help that really is it seen as ive forgot which ones they are!!! i will try n find the link....that might help if i do eh!
11/10/08 09:23
lol, i would be so gutted. i had a curry at 35 weeks and went into labour. wasn't trying to or anything, must have just been coincidence though.
11/10/08 09:21
Ahhh, ok!
I was reading about a woman last night who ate spicey food and curry from 36 weeks everyday!
Drank RLT from 34 weeks!
Did the EPO thing!
Ate pineapple!
Did the castor oil thing!
Had sext twice a day, including swallowing!
And still went 11 days over! PMSL!
