    Hi

My LO had terrible wind when he was younger, there is light at the end of the tunnel though cause now he burps and farts like a trooper, just like his dad!!  Anyway, I found one way that really used to help with his wind, I hope I can explain it properly.  Sit baby on your knee and support their head from the front i.e put your hand under their chin, and then put the heel of your other hand into the small of their back and gently straighten them up in to a nice sitting position.  This method really used to help my LO, it was from a book called 'What to expect when you're breastfeeding' by Clare Byram-Cook, it is a really good book and isnt just for breastfeeding mums, she also offers good advice for bottle feeding too.  Anyway, HTH and as I said before it does get so much easier eventually, then you'll only have teething to deal with LOL!!!!

My lo has wind trouble at night (I think she's got a split personality, cos she's a whole different baby at night- but that's an entirely seperate thread...! I've been giving her Dentinox which has helped shift it- I put it in her milk. I must say that I have more success winding myself, too.

i also find rubbing in a circular motion helps better but i was also advised to use Infacol which helps with colic (trapped wind) and now i dont have a problem ensuring all her wind is up and she is also not as sicky.

I find rubbing their back in a circular motion helps, as does rocking them back and forth or side to side. My mw swears by rocking them.

I found ds2 really struggled with his wind on cow and gate milk, we've changed to Hipp organic and it's much easier to get it up. We also use dentinox colic drops in each feed.

louise my babys also 3 and a half weeks old going through exactly the same stage as yours, which my mum says is because of trapped wind...and also after feed she stays unsettled if not properly burped....for last few days she wants feeding all the time....but my mum and health visitor both say tht i should feed her for abt 20 to 25 mins so that her tummys full and then let her cry a bit if she asks for feed again in few mins...and instead of feeding her again make sure she has burped properly....and for tht i just carry her upstraight then change her position a few times but dnt put her on her back till she has few good burps.

    hope it helps X

My midwife advice was just to make sure back is straight so windpipe as straight as poss and sure enough it has always worked though at times bubs cries but this stops when he manages to get it out at the other end!!!

my midwifes adive....' dont do all tjhis tapping and rubbing buisness..sit them up 20 mins after afeed and allow the wind to naturally make its way to the top then tap them and have a big big burp'...it neva worked for me or lilun lol i tap talia on my shoulder for about 2 mins..trhen sit her up right with my hand on her tummy and hand on her back (wedged) and sit untill she gives me a nice big burp which is about 2 mins later!! lol she was hard to burp younger (shehas been winded this way since 6 weeks) but i found if i left her and dint burp her then she would get terrible tummy ache and get the poppy wind lolwhich she got soo distressed about bless her! hope this helps! gripe water is ok, infacol is good to...there is also something called colief but that is a complicated long going thing which u have to wean them off etc....there is a post some where on here about a herbal wind relief..good luck sorry if i rambled hahah

Apparently patting just shifts the bubbles rather than helping them up, so rubbing is better.  Then if it doesn't work, as suggested, tilt the baby! Tummy tubs are good at getting wind to shift before bed if you get really stuck, or try gripe water.

    Good luck!

I think its different for different babies, you will find what fits for you. For example if I am sat down and find that lo is not bringing wind up then I will stand and sure enough we have a bellowing sound. Sometimes it helps to stretch them out to untrap the wind. If baby is sat on your knee, let him tilt back until falt and then bring him back up again - this moves the air (hope i have explained that so it makes sense lol). My little one winds himself quite a bit now but I still like to make sure its up and sometimes it take ages.

    Hello,

the past couple of days my little one hasnt been settling very well after feeds he goes to sleep but then wakes up really soon afterwards, as well as having a growth spurt day (thats me sat on sofa doing nothing but feeding all day) - i think he has trapped wind.  He is only three and a half weeks old - can i give him anything to ease the wind or do i have to wait till he is older?

Also how long should you wind for and what exactly should i be doing?  at the moment im just patting and rubbing back but that doesnt seem to bring anything up.  do i have to keep going until a here a burp?
