my little boy is bottle fed.  initally up untill he was 4 weeks he was breast fed and had a dirty nappy after every feed. Once started combo feeding he only went once a day. he is now completly botle fed is 8 weeks and has a pooh every three days and you can set your watch by him !!!!!!!!!   although when he does go he makes up for the lack of dirty nappies  !! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! one of my friends baby poohed every 6 days !!. as long as they are having plenty of wet nappies they should be fine.  I used to give my son 2 oz cool boiled water every day to help him go but have stopped as the  when he does go its soft he has just got a lazy bowel !!!

My baby started to go once a day at about 3 weeks and then once every 3 days.  Since 6 weeks she's been going once every five days and she's now 11 weeks. She's breastfed.   I kept asking the HVs and they said as long as she's not in discomfort, has plenty of wet nappies and is going along her growth curve then it's fine.  Breastfed babies can be quite efficient at processing their milk so there's less waste.  I found with mine, she gets a bit grumpy by the fifth day.  I will give her a 2-3 of oz of cool boiled water with one ice cube of pure orange juice (this was a suggestion from one of the HVs).  Also gripe water seems to shift out a lot of gas too.

    Hi Ladies

Can anyone help - I'm a bit worried about my little boy.  He's 3 1/2 weeks old, and hasn't had a dirty nappy since Weds afternoon.  He's having plenty of wet ones, and feeding well - he's mostly brastfed but sometimes we give him a top up of formula if he still seems hungry after a feed. Until Weds, he was having 3-4 a day at least.

I have phoned the midwives at the hospital, who said speak to my HV, so I spoke to her and she says don't worry until Monday, then if he still hasn't pooed to see the GP. So I phoned the GP yesterday as well, just to be on the safe side, for some telephone advice and he said the same thing - but surely it can't be good for him to not go for 3days now?

Also, I'm worried that come MOnday if he hasn't been I won't be able to get him a docs appointment.

Can anyone let me know if all this is normal, or if I should be concerned or any remedies I can try that might get him moving again? I've tried giving him a warm bath, moving his legs and rubbing his tummy but none of those seem to have done anygood?
