hiya
if it is reflux and he has heartburn he'll need rannitadine, which stops the pain..
gaviscon is great and thickens the milk, they will prob also give you domperidone which helps the stomach contract too.
ollie is now nearly 25 weeks and much better the bigger he gets but weaning is hard work, he doesn't seem to like food and literally takes 2 teaspoons at any meal
however at least with all the above he keeps his milk down these days. He is also on lactose free milkxxx

Have you checked the reflux website? I found that nearly all the symptoms rang true for me... Hope you get sorted though its horrible when you feel you cant do anything. xx

Omg could this be why my baby is being sick all the time? He is a lot better since i have been weaning him but he is still a very sicky baby.

hiya... thought so as ive been keeping my eye out to see if you'd seen the post.
Docs @ hospital at first was going to change his milk to soya but when I told them I'd changed from SMA gold- to SMA White then back to Gold then onto Cow and Gate 1 (not all one after another lol but was desperate to try anything thinking it could be his milk) they agreed to keep it at that as they didnt think it was his milk. Im due to go back this week for the Doc to see his progress and he is doing fantastic
Change was almost immediate. Someone else has wrote similar on that website that Gaviscon is a major blessing.Ive been weaning LO on own puree stuff- banana, apples, pear and veg. Plus sometimes use jars as easier for him to try a casserole that way than me cook them all the time! Im not very good in the kitchen! He's just starting to get back on track with the weaning as it drifted a bit when he got vomiting and diorrhea (cant spell it!) virus. xx

sorry forgot to put... if it is reflux try the following as my LO has almost completely stopped being sick. Docs at hospital recommended and is on the websites...
- Try after feeding holding baby upright for 20mins, either sitting or standing, dont jiggle. If you have to change nappy after feeding rest the head on a cushion so body is at a 30 degree angle. Bit tricky at first but you get used.
- Cot should also ideally be at a minimum of 30 degree angle. Ive bought something called baby blocks on amazon where you can stack them as high as 3 blocks. Ive got 2 on as 3 looked like they may catapult baby off into the garden! Before that I wedged a pillow at one end of the cot and had baby at the other so there was an incline.
-Lying baby on their tummy as they find this easier than on their backs- they have a section on the baby centre with things to start putting in place to avoid reflux. The docs at the hospital advised me that 80% of babies stop getting severe reflux once they are completely on solids. The more you introduce the better it gets, just dont start throwing a whole chicken at them lol. Hope ive not gone on too much! You'll wish I never posted on here! xx

Hi! (22 weeks) My LO was diagnosed with this last week and I can understand exactly how you feel. I went to the docs as I was extremely upset that when I was trying to feed him he would have 1 or 2 ounces then arch his back and scream, when previously he drank 6 ounces. I am weaning (please no comments!) and he seemed fine when eating baby cereal/ puree etc compared to his bottles. I'd already taken him to the hospital approx 6 weeks earlier where a member of the community paediatric team were supposed to come and see us and watch him feed and his habits but they never showed up. Afetr what seemed like an age I was sick of no improvements although I'd tried everything- changing his milk, stopping weaning (made it worse as no weight gain), waking him through the night to feed very little and often. So I logged feeding patterns, nappies etc and went on the internet where I first heard of baby reflux. He had almost all symptoms, so I printed it off and took it to the docs. As LO's weight had dipped the doc referred me to the hospital straight away and he was diagnosed.
Thankfully after a week he is finally back on 6 ounces as he has baby gaviscon powder which I have to add to his milk and make feeds up fresh (which I did anyway as I use the tommee tippee pots) and another liquid called Ranitidine. This seems to be doing the job and he is a lot happier. I used to stink of sick and constantly be walking around with wet patches from wiping it up or curdled milk. yak!
Try looking on www.babycentre.co.uk/baby/health/reflux/
I hope that helps and you get sorted out. Dont be afraid to keep mithering! xx

hi, my daughter has reflux. she is sick constantly between feeds. she used to wake all the time in the night. i bought some dr browns bottles and they are wonderful. also you can try colief, but ask at the chemist first, and also infacol. after feeding keep your child upright for as long as possible.
with my baby its the muscle at the top of her stomach that is weak, so when she burps, the food comes up when the muscle should keep it in. it can be like heart burn too, which would explain the crying. if you are worried speak to your gp. if your baby is gaining weight and developing properly there is generally no need to worry. i could not get anyone to give me anything so well done for getting the gaviscon! it is in most cases more of an inconvenience than a problem. it really got me down to the point i wouldnt go out as she was always covered in sick! i got all the looks like "oh look at the state of that poor baby" like i was a defective mother. i have now realised that i will spend the next 6 months smelling of sick, with odd looking white stains on my clothing! good luck!

anyone no what it is proper i no its like heart burn e has got gaviscon. doc sed tht prop y e not been sleepin n cryin loads xxx

Hi again.
I have to do Wills meds alternatively so first bottle is with gaviscon and then I give him baby cereal, banana tends to be his favourite. Hes just trying fruit and yogurt at the min. Then he'll have a bottle with ranitidine in, etc then late afternoon I give him some pureed veg and some fruit.
With him only just being on the meds 2 weeks and now in full flow of working wonders I find that the weaning is getting a lot easier as he's more willing to try, though if on first initial taste he doesn't like it its murder trying to get him to have anymore, so I then try again the next night etc till he munches the whole amount I give him.
I wouldn't worry too much re weaning. Wait until you've seen the doc and he's offered what he can and then start to establish again... HTHx
