Thanks for info on the 8 month HV check. Be nice if we get some books, shall look out for those Be nice if they do his length measurement as for some reason they don't do that at birth here.. did anyone else find that?

Kerry, I wouldn't worry about lo not moving around to much and enjoy it whilst you can LOL!! I bet your lo will be up and moving before you know it!! Sorry I can't recommend any good toys but that ball the previous poster mentioned sounds really good.

Hi kerryd1979.  I encouraged my ds to crawl by buying a cheap £1.99 lightweight football.  He was so keen to chase after it that he started multiple rolling and then bunny hopping and then he gradually crawled to get it.  Of all the lovely toys he has, that ball is still the best thing I've bought. hth xxxx

hi, my lo called lily was born 15th Oct and was 4 weeks early. she weighed 6lb 8 at birth but that went down to 5lb 11. she is now 16lb 13. don't know where the time has gone.

she has just had her 8 month check and HV said she couldn't tell she was early. she has caught up in every aspect.

she is now sitting up most of the time. came all of a sudden. she also has her 2 bottom teeth and her top 2 are cutting at mo. shes not crawling yet but hv says that not all babies crawl some bum shuffle. lo is def trying to do this at moment.

at 8 month check HV weighed lo, measured head circum and length and checked that her hips etc were fine. almost same as 8 week check.

she also checked her reactions, if she could hold things with finger and thumb and if she could follow objects. she was also surprised lo was already using baby cup for water and juice and that she was eating lots of food whole and not mushed. not sure why surprised as it was their idea to try her eating most foods with fingers.

lo also received a bag of books from Bookstart. has anyone else received these or are thay just for people in Surestart areas?

Hello, my dd was born on the 20th Oct weighing 6lb 15oz and she's magic!!  She's mastered rolling over but doesn't seem to be vaguely interested in moving herself anywhere!  It sounds like all your lo's are starting to get around now and i know it's daft cos all bubs are different but i get worried that she's never gonna get going.  Any ideas on how i can help encourage her??

Ruby was born on the 18 October.  She is not crawling yet but is getting up on all fours, just does not know how to move.  Manages to get about by rolling and pulling herself along, so cannot take my eyes off her.  She has now decided to sleep on her tummy aswell, was worried at first but not now, but she is such a restless sleeper, she tries to crawl in her sleep then wakes up crying as she is headbutting bottom of bed. Anybody have any tips on how to stop her doing  this.  Dont want to put her in a sleep bag with weather been warm.  She is not trying to pull up on anything yet, but I heard they do that once they are crawling.  She has two bottom teeth and two top and can say da da and ba ba, but not ma ma not matter how much I try !!! Do not know where the last 8 months have gone, but enjoying it so much.

try not to worry, all lil bubz develop at different stages...maybe she wont even crawl and just go straight to walking, or before you know it, you will see her dashing around on all fours lol.

about sleeping on their tummies...mine does that and sometimes he puts his face flat down! I HATE IT! i get so paranoid and i have to move him but he always rolls back...i guess its how they are comfortable, and at their age now they are more than capable or lifting their heads!

Hi my little girl Tiia was born 25th october and I thought she was doing well till I just read this thread she still isn't crawling although she is trying she's not that close and she certainly isn't pulling herself up on things.  She can sit up well on her own and roll over and if i'm holing her she try's to walk.  Do you think it's because she was 2 weeks early?  She say's mama, papa and some other random noises lol.  we live in Cyprus so don't have a hv but she had checks when she's been for injections and they were happy.  She's also weaned really well eats most things and enjoys finger food.  Will be nice to keep in touch with all you october mummy's.

    Hi,

Ryan was born on 30th october.  He sits up well himself but isnt crawling yet.  I've tried him on his tunny but only likes it for 2-3 mins then has had enough, spos he'll do it in his own time.  He has his two front teeth, just came thru this month so not sur when the top ones will appear.

    Hi everyone

My little Bella was born on the 21st of October, in the last few weeks she has started crawling, climbing up the stairs, standing, pulling everything out of drawers and cupboards and basically just in at everything

I had her at toddlers yesterday where there are a few babies her age just sitting quietly while she is in at everything i feel like she has turned into a little monster

She also turns onto her stomach at night, I turn her onto her side as she doesn't like being on her back and I don't like her being on  her tummy so we compromise!

Tom (born 9th Oct) has slept on his tummy for a month or so now.  It is really hard not to worry andI was exactly the same as you; I tried to stop him at firsty by rolling him back over when he's asleep, but he just goes back on his front in the night.  I've stopped worrying as he can lift his head clear if he needs too.  I sometimes find him curled at the bottom of his cot, with his face buried and in the most uncomfortable looking position, but he seems to sleep better if I let him find his own position.

He's crawling and despite wearing a grobag he still manages to move around his cot at night!!!!

Hi there to everyone, my little girl Isabel was born on 9th October, and is doing all the same things as the rest of your little ones..........................but something she has started to do in the last couple of weeks, when I put her down to sleep at night, just as she is falling asleep, she is rolling herself over to sleep on her tummy, and it don't matter how many times during the night I go back in and roll her back, she turns herself over again. Thing is I'm not to happy letting her sleep on her tummy at this age !!!!!!................has anyone else been through this, or is this about the right age for a baby to try new sleeping position.

    thanks for that!

i think i might just ring the HV just to check, as when my lo was born there was a huge mess up...i gave birth in chelsea, but i was living in croydon, so i asked them to transder my details to a hospital close to me, they said they would but they didnt, so i had to arrange it all myself, it was so annoying
