my son went through the same at the same age, he is now 9 months...I finally figured out he just wanted to feed himself more, i hadn't been very brave with finger foods until then. So I introduced more of those but also started cooking him meals that I could cut up into little pieces, he couldn't pick them up at first so I used to pop them into his mouth, and combine it with foods he could hold and feed himself....he would then let me feed him some foods by spoon as well, now he can pick up the little pieces himself so I put them straight onto his highchair tray, I find now as long as there is something in his meal he can feed himself he is happy for me to feed him the messier meals....I no longer puree or mash most foods I feed him either, just cut it into pieces and meals are no longer stressy!!! he would end up in tears at every meal until I did this, and me nearly with him!!! xx

Thanks for replying, glad to know mine is not the only one.  I think it did coincide with introducing lumps but strangely, he was only throwing a fit at lunchtime when he had fully pureed food, not dinnertime when he had the lumps

It is getting a bit better now, but he still grumps a bit.  Think I'll just have to ride it out, sure it will be something else in a few weeks time.

Oh yes. My lo is a nightmare, he is 7 1/2 months and throws constant tatntrums at food time. It is getting to the point where I dread meal times with him. I think with him it also coincided with the intro of lumps. A friend told me that app boys are more lazy with lumps and take longer to take them. I have now gone back to purees and am only giving him lumps for one meal a day which is working out better at the mo. hth.

HORRAY It's not just me then!!! Sorry - thought my ds nearly 8 months was the only one! He has also only just recently started doing this since I stopped purreeing his food....I thought he was just being awkward! I cook his food and have just started mashing it instead of purreeing and it does look a bit dry but even adding some sauces doesn't seem to have helped....he just won't open his mouth for his food.

Breakfast is ok, it's dinner and tea...so today I gave him his own spoon and everytime he went to put his spoon in his mouth I nipped in their quick and put his food in! This seemed to take ages,  but when the food was in his mouth he ate it no problem...?? That's the bit I don't understand, coz if he didn't want it surely he wouldn't eat it, he'd just spit it out!?

I've just started to have this problem!  I use the Anabelle Karmel book to cook all of Jack's food.  He started having tantrums about a week ago which coincided with the food getting much more 'chewy'.  So, I reverted back to adding sauces and he is o.k again.  I make sure he has lumpier foods, just in sauces rather than dry lumpy food which was what I was getting from the book.  I found that Jack will eat small pots of yoghurts when we are having problems and will always eat fruit purees. HTH. xx

Hi, my ds is 71/2 months and has started to throw real tantrums when eating.  He used to eat all of his lunch and dinner, but now am having trouble getting half of it down him.  Is anyone else lo's doing this, or has anyone got any ideas on how to stop it.  I am completely baffled by it, as he loves his food. Thanks
