Aww hun fair enough to worry as she's not on her "normal" routine... hopefully she'll go back soon - but as pp said just keep an eye out for wet nappies and fontanelle etc... Jasmine barely drinks any water full stop... let alone when she's teething... she will only take a few sips of water at meal times so no more than 60mls a day (2oz)
Not sure how to get her to drink more but she spits it out... she's not dehydrated though... so hopefully little eryn will be fine :D

thanx, she still wont take water and is still only having 10-12oz milk a day. the tooth i visible now and sharp and has a hole next to it so she is cutting her 2 bottom at same time so prob why she struggling, tho she still hasnt whinged. her fontanelle seems to change all the time, sometimes it is quite sunken but ive poited this out to hv and she shrugged it off like i was daft. her morning nappies used to bulge and now dont at all but she def does at least 1 wee every couple of hours i can feel a podge so she not dry. her poos change too, she can sometimes do 3 a day at mo and 2 can be really firm and the other soft. i just keep offering her drinks but she pushes away and shouts at me! she's happy and very very active so i think she ok but will keep checking the signs you have mentioned thanx xx5/10/08 19:58
The sunken fontanelle isn't the most obvious sign of dehydration. If your lo stops having wet nappies and has dry, formed, solid poo then it's a sign they could be doing with a bit more fluid. They will also probably look pale in colour and possibly have dark, sunken eyes. Sounds like your lo is having enough fluid so try not to worry. If stops having wet nappies then go see GP. hth, x

no-one's actually answered the main question lol! You can tell if a baby is dehydrated because the fontanelle (soft spot) on top of head becomes sunken.

Hi hun, my lol ALWAYS seems to want less drink when hes teething & its always because i think the cup hurts his gums! Once i apply some teething gel he has the drink straight away. As the last post said as long as you try to compensate with other sources of calcium then lo should be just fine! My lo only has a breastfeed before bed now (hes 11 months) & wont touch cows milk or formula,so i just make sure he has some cheese & youghurt each day plus some dairylea with the little bread sticks to dip in!! He loves those with strips of cucumber (the soft centre parts) Hope that helps hun!!!

hi hun try not to worry ,i know lennox is different has he was only taking between 4-7 oz a day from 10 weeks old,,but last few weeks takes no fluid at all,he is only allowed powdered food mixed with his comfort milk ,it has to be very runny ,so his getting his milk that way ,he has only been dehydrated once and that was before he was weaned ,he only had 3 oz in 26 hours so was dripped, you will be suprised how much water is in jars ,plus little one is still having fluids ,if you are worried then maybe get back on to your consultant ,loraine and gang x x x

Eryn is cutting a tooth, in fact i think 2 are on way. she normally has 20oz milk a day and bout 7oz water a day and foods, but the last week now she has had bout 14oz milk and 3oz water and small meals, worried she wont be getting enough fluid but she pulls away and cries from bootle and cups.

Hope she picks up and puts your worrying at ease soon, sure she'll be fine. Maybe you could try her with home made ice lolllies (made with diluted down fruit juice) to give her wee bit more fluid if you're still worried and it'll also be nice and cool on her wee gums too!
