I agree whole heartedly. People are ill 7 days a week and should be able to see a doctor in that time frame. I know there are out of hours services but they aren't for routine appointments and If they think you can wait till monday they won't see you. If doctors did work 7 days a week it would make life easier for everyone, including them.

I have made the comment many a time that the NHS should stop treating it's patients like numbers and start treating them like PEOPLE.

O/T but my dentist used to be NHS, you usually had to wait at least 40 minutes before your apt and you were rushed in and out so quickly it's a wonder our teeth got looked at. Anyhoo, our dentist went private and so did my family. Now we have a lovely waiting room, excellent reception service (from the same staff) and the dentist is NEVER late. Obviously this is because we now pay, if we weren't happy with the service we would take our custom elsewhere. It's about time the NHS had a similar attitude. I know that if I could carry on seeing my dr privately I would pay for a little better treatment from the front of house staff and it would be worth every penny if we didn't have to spend ages in a room full of ill people, spreading germs. If I spoke to a customer the way they do, when I was working, I would have been given my P45. So why do we put up with it? Has it become the "norm" to expect bad service and rudeness from medical receptionists??? I'm not saying all receptionists are like this, I'm sure there are lots of nice people dong this job and I'm sure it's a very demanding job but is it really so hard to be polite? You get much further in life saying please and thank you!!

    Sorry ranting again

That is disgraceful asking if the appointment was necessary!  GPs don't seem to be accountabvle for customer service AT ALL! Im in Education and we couldn't possibly treat parents or other staff the way that GPs do with regards to appointments , opening hours and tratements at times.Considering how much they earn they should provide a more friendly and convenient service. We pay their wages! xxx

Yeah it is that bad, honestly. The doctors and Nurses are really great- well except 1 nurse but I found out today she has left to be a HV (ttc number 3, any bets on who my hv is bound to be??? it had better not be!! lol) So I have no problems with the medical care we receive - just the gaurd dogs, sorry I mean receptionists. If they drs were horrible I would move but they aren't so we're staying. Also my gp is a paediatrcian so I feel loads better if they have to see him!

I swear they are as horrible as humanly possible just to scare people out of making appointments, but this is one mumma that aint backing down PMSL

    Hi Jo,

To be honest if I didn' think anyone would reply but I was so angry I had to get it out. I was a bit sneeky today cos I had an appointment to see the Dr and I took the kids with me, I explained that Lily has a cold coming on and I was worried it might make her chest bad. He agreed that with her history she should be done asap.....so he did it there and then!!! Result!!!

She has to have a booster in 4 weeks but she was a superstar, she flinched but there was no crying just the bottom lip. Bless her cottons. Then I came home and phoned the surgery after lunch and managed to get Evie booked in for evening surgery(12 month jabs), we've not long been back and she was a superstar too. She even waved at the nurse on the way out!!!

So all in all I was worried about nothing but it could have been awful and I wouldn't have been able to soothe both of them on my own.

Thanks for replying though hun - I can always rely on you x

Hi ladies it's me again and as usual when I start a thread it's because someone has annoyed me!! lol, yes this happens alot!!

My 2 daughters were booked to see the nurse today to have jabs done. DD1 was meant to have the flu jab and DD2 was meant to have her 12 month jabs. I booked these 3 weeks ago to make sure I could have a day that someone could come with me, a day that dd1 doesn't have nursery and the nearest date to the flu vaccines being started (our surgery didn't start till sat 4th Oct)

Anyway I got a call this morning from the surgery to say that the appointments had to be cancelled as the nurse has gone sick. She also asked me if I still needed the appointments because they are trying to filter out unnecessary bookings!!!!! Umm hello!!!!

What I am annoyed about is the fact that the appointments have been rebooked to the sister surgery (on thursday)  which is further away, meaning I now have to get a taxi there and this will cost about £5.00 obviously I have to pay the same back!!

I now have no one to come with me and will have to sruggle with 2 kids being jabbed on my own. If I book them seperately one of them is going to have to wait till at least the end of next week. Evie needs her booster and Lily has to have a second flu jab 4 weeks after the first one (if that makes sense????)

My mum has lost 1/2 a days wages now and can't afford to take the time off on Thursday.

I have had to cancel Lily's nursery session as they cannot move it (staff to child ratio) this has cost me £7.00.

I can keep phoning to see if there are any cancellations but it is unlikely as they have had to cancel over 25 appointments today!!!! I asked if there was any chance they would be getting a stand in and was told " no it's far to expensive" !!!!

Well ladies tbh I'm not surprised the NHS is in such dire straits when they employ numpty staff. The nurses are over worked because surgeries are forced to keep figures within set target limits. ( I'm not knocking nurses cos I think they do a great job) But what scares me the most is that receptionists are allowed to make decisions on how important appointments are!!! When did they become medically trained?????

Well that's me done for now!!!! Thanks ladies xxxxx
