ds started back in jan and seems to have one cold after the other.  but i guess its to be expected.  They can go in with colds and coughs but not things like diarreoh (24hrs have to wait).  He has just caught chicken pox from nursery and so is off this week.

Hiya, DD too started in January and seems to have had illnesses on and off.

Mainly colds here (she managed to miss the tummy bug and the hand foot and mouth, god knows how!!!).  If it's a cold I send her in (as do other parents), maybe give her calpol before she goes if needed.  So far she has had one day off ill and that was cause she was constipated and they rung me once to collect her early as she had a temperature and that turned out to be an ear infection.

We seem to spend a lot of time in Doctors since nursery (although she does get a chest infection with each tooth) and Doctor said at least when she goes to school she'll be immune to lots of things and will not have as much time off then!

HIya, DD started nursery in January - worst time of year LOL. She did have a few colds and a couple of tummy bugs, but after 3 months or so, she was a lot better and is now (dare I say) generally very well, although I'm sure winter will bring some bugs. I only kept her off if she had a tummy bug as our nursery has a 24 hour away policy with sickness and dirrhrea (sp). As Cat said, if I kept her off for every little thing, she'd never be there and 9 times out of 10, she's lasted the day and come home happy. I would say if she had a cold, send her and see how she goes - you can always collect her if need be. HTH x

I actually put a post on here a while back about my dd being permanently ill for months after starting nursery.  She's had a cold non-stop for 8 months now!  She's also picked up chicken pox and various tummy bugs.  Our nursery has a policy of keeping them off for 48 hours after the last bout of sickness or diarhhea (sp?!) so obviously we keep her off if we have to,  If its just a cold, or teething niggles etc then she goes in, cos if we kept her off for those reasons she'd never be there!! My dd has only been for 3 weeks so far, but I am aware that more bugs fly around at nurseries .. so I'm just waiting for the first bug to be honest! I'm in the same situation, I have to take unpaid parental leave for dd, but still have to pay the nursery - on the plus side, it is helping to boost their immune systems ..

Hi my ds was ill  for a couple months when he started nursery.  It was just colds, a cough and a tummy bug.  At the time it felt never ending!!  He still went to nursery, his tummy bugs fell at the weekend and I sent him back on monday - my nursery has a policy where they have to be 48hours clear but seeing as he got the bug from nursery and I doubt he was carrying the bug still I sent him - I know I'm the bad mum spreading the bugs round nursery   its just the difficulty of missing work when he is healthy.  He went with his colds and cough I just took his calpol and snufflebaby for him.  He has never had any calpol when he has been at nursery because he seems less bothered by being ill when he is occupied and at nursery he is so on the go its prob better than keeping him home feeling sorry for himself.  Hope that makes sense!!

He has now been going for bout 3months and is fine, like they say it builds up their immune system!

Hi, do those of you whose lo's go to nursery find they are ill a lot? Dd has started nursery recently and a few people have said to me that she will probably catch all sorts of germs and bugs by going. If they do get ill do you keep them off nursery? I know I wouldn't want to send dd in if she was poorly but I am a sahm so it'd not like I would have to miss work if she was sick. It's not really something I had given much thought too but thought it odd that a few people had said the same thing.
