Hi i'm a nurse and just wanted to say that you dont need any specific qualifications to work as an hca in a  nursing home or hospital.  Definately go for a job where they help you to get an NVQ in H and S care as it will always be useful in many jobs. There are some good nursing job websites that have carer jobs listed. OM me if you want any more info. HTH

    hi

you definitely could get a job in a nursing home with no relevant qualifications and they would put you through an nvq like previous poster said. you could do a short course like first aid which would be a useful qual to add to your cv if you're applying for jobs in the care sector. hth x

you could prolly get a job in a nursing home and work towards an nvq in health and social care whilst you do it this is what most people do basically on the job training

Why don't you call up one of the places you would like to work at and ask them what they are looking for in their employees along with any general info they can give you.... Good luck

i might be wrong but i dont think you have to have done a college course to start work say in a nursing home or something similar, but if you wanted to do a course something like an NC in health and social care or something similar might be a good starting point? Have you googled local colleges to see what courses they do? x
