My DD is 17 months and tends to get out of her straps too.
I always tighten them as much as i can and the only other way i can stop her from doing it is giving her some toys or a biscuit or something.
Luckily the journeys i'm doing at the moment are only 10 minute ones to and from town.
My family live up North and it takes 2 and a half hours to go there, but when i go visit them i make sure she's sleeping the whole way (bedtime routine and popped straight in the car rather than bed!!) So luckily she doesn't wriggle out then!
Oh and always lock the door closest to them!! My nephew opens the back door on anything. He's so quick!!30/9/08 23:29
My DS Does this too... and at lightening speed one min they are in and the next they are out!!
The other day i was taking some rubbish to our tip so had Riley in the front with me, i was at a roundabout so looking right and then as i drove off he got out of his straps and reached over and opened my passenger door and it swung out and another car nearly hit it i was in shock!! i didnt even think about him going for the door handle as the back ones have childlock and never open! nedless to say he doesnt go in the front anymore!

I can't remember where I have seen them but know they exist - you can get a strap that attaches to both the car seats existing straps and goes across the chest - like when you have a big rucksack and have a tummy belt and a chest belt if that makes sense!! and so it prevents them from being able to wriggle out.
Can't be bothered to re-type!! Just googles it and the product you need is called
SNUGSIT - or - HUG IT
British made and complies with EU laws on car seats - google it and have a read - hth. Sarah Xxx

my lo has also started to do this she is also 16 months, i dont think there is a way round it apart from constantly saying no and strapping them in so tight they can barely breath!!!

We have this problem too! Caleb gets his arms out regularly - its ok to keep checking if there are 2 of you in the car but dh had him out the other day on his own and he was at his wits end. The straps are tightened etc and he has been told No on a number of occasions! Going to have to get a bit more abrupt wit him so he understands!

How do you stop them getting their arms out??? I strap dd in as tightly as possible but she still manages to get out. On a 20 minute journey today I had to pull over 3 times as her arms were out. Please help!!

Thank you very much, I'll start searching now x
