hiya i had one 4 weeks ago, go for my check up next week. when i had it done on the monday teatime, i could feel a strange p***ing sensation up there, so next day went back to the nurse who said the strings were very long, so tr*** them, and ever since i dont even know ive got it. dh says he can feel them with his fingers (sorry if tmi) but not during intercourse. the pill made me depressed so thats why i went for this as they say cos the hormone is localised to your womb, it shouldnt effect your whole body in the way the pill does as that is a much higher dose, and i must say i have felt much better mood wise since having this done and have had very little bleeding. the nurse also saud most people who are gonna get it taken out do so within 6 months or keep it for the full 5 years, so try stick it out a bit longer. it can be easy to blame this or the pill etc for feeling depressed but sometimes they arent connected. maybe just have a chat with the nurse when you go see what she says, but open up about the feelings they cant help if you dont say anything.

i have had one for about 14 months now. i need to get it checked actually as not had my 12 month check. at first i got fed up with the odgey periods that would gush one minute then be hardly anything the next. i did have a bit of funny moods too, now i am fine, well i think i am dh may think otherwise lol.

i have never felt my strings and neither has dh and now my periods are not even enough to need a pad, i use a pantyliner for a few days a month but normally there is only a bit of blood when i wipe (sorry tmi)

My sister had this and had a nightmare but then again she was suffering endrometriosis so her circumstances were completely different. so far i find the coil great but it is like all contraceptives it is a personal chioce and depens on you body to weither it is any good.

thank you sarah for your advice. well i have eventually just finished my period and i am 12 days into my cycle my period was pretty erratic, light one miunte and gushing the next.

i can feel my strings without even trying to look for them that is how low they are might get dp to loo(tmi ) just to see how low they are and get them cut. as for my moods i feel terrible most days and feel i just cant be bothered any more with anything.i cry at the slightest things and when ds starts crying i feel like running away and leaving it all behind (i fel really ashamed thinking that)my mood are really bad and that it is putting me and dp under pressure.i constantly feel tired and exhausted and i have trouble sleeping at night, i use to feel like this before have the coil but now it is 10 times worse

    Hey Keany

I too have a Mirena fitted but I have had mine for quite some time ago - about 10 months I think - but I too feel pretty much the same - to be honest, I couldn't have said it better myself! Although, I think all the doom and gloom in the news and the fact that that weather has turned is compounding it! With regards to the strings - my doc cut mine so short they have disappeared - I had to have a scan to check they were still there....I have been told that they soften and curl round your cervix after a while and then your DP won't be able to feel them - it can also depend where you are in your cycle ( if you have one) because your cervix is lower at some times than others which will also means it will make it easier to feel.

I HTH and just wanted to let you know you're not alone.

Feel free to PM me if you want to chat and I will get back to you as soon as.

    Hugs

    Sarah

I had unpleasent side effects with mine too. I had mood swings, greasy hair and a bloated stomach. I had mine removed after 6 months as the intermittant bleeding drove me mad! Lots of people rate this coil really highly but it was a no go for me! x
