Wait for this ... my dd had her dummy until she was neary 5! I managed to get rid of it just before she started school. Don't get me wrong, she never walked around with it, but always had it at bed time. I worried myself stupid about it, but tbh, looking back now it wasn't really a big deal. She was a very early talker so it didn't affect her speech.
LO (13 months) has one just to go to bed and I have no plans to take it away from him if its his little bit of comfort. Don't listen to hv, do what you think is right. xxx

HV
do my head right in. Your lo will come off dummy when ready and believe me it could not be worse than running down stairs to fill up milk YES I know now ds 2 doesnt wake every night but when he does thats what we have to do. I only put him on a dummy when about 13 months old because this was like 4/5 times a night now sometimes the dummy will do. This time last year my ds1 had just turned 3 and he stayed with my sis she had no dummy for him that was it he had to sleep without one and he has never looked back i had all intention to give it to santa but if you had said to me a year ago how are you getting dummy of casey i would have been really concerned about it. Hiya - my ds1 had his dummy until past 3 years old as i could never find a 'right' time to get rid. More like i couldnt be bothered with the hassle that came with it! Well when ds2 was 13 months he statred to bite holes in the teat bits so one night on the spur of the moment i tried putting him to bed without it, but he still had his cloth, and he was fine!! I was fully expecting to give it back that night, but when we'd gone 24 hours without it, i thought Hey this could work! And we have never looked back. It was BY FAR much easier then i expected and im so glad i did cos IMO his speaknig is already improving on what ds1's was and he was a late talker and still can be hard to understand at 4 and im sure now this was cos he had a dummy in his mouth all the time. This is just my opinion affecting my sons and im sure many other babies speak fine and have a dummy. I say just give it a go, but if you arent bothered with by it then dont worry about what the HV says.

Summer has a dummy. I try and only give it to her at bedtime but i keep 3 or 4 dummies in her cot so that if she wakes up for her dummy she can hopefully find it herself. She is at nursery full time and they don't let her have a dummy there only again when she's tired.
I notice Summer wants her dummy when she's unwell, tired or just wants confort. I agree get rid of the dummy when you are ready not the health visitor.
Summer is 15 months on the 15th and i worry about when to get rid of the dummy but i've decided i will do it when she understands and i can say one day "you're a big girl now and dummy has gone away"
Hope that makes sense lol xxxx

Ahh hun hv's think they know it all - I swear they think all babies are from a text book!! If you don't think lo is ready to give up the dummy then don't worry about it coz no one ones your lo better than you!!

Hi there
We av just been to het jabs done and also got dd weighed. She wakes up 3 times a nite for the dummy and I think it is habit too. however the hv told me to get rid of the dummy but I personally don't feel she is ready....far from it actually as she uses it too much as a comforter as well as her muzzy. I felt like telling her to go away and for her to come and spend the wk/2 wks getting her off of it.
Soz just wanted a moan lol x

they are a bit like everyone else what they do in private is up to them lol. I used to come home from school and have a wee suck on my dummy bear in mind that was 20 odd years ago no one prob would have looked twice at me back then.
