    Smiling at youteeheehee

My ss used to suffer night terrors alot. They were very vivid and even got me lookin a few times. Ds1,2 and 3 have all had them too. i've found that they tend to get a spate of them every 2yrs, which coincides with them getting a new batch of emotions .ie. 2yrs old, 4yrs, 6yrs and 8yrs. When they get them theyre like a living nightmare. Their eyes are open and they are lucid and totally convinced about what they can "see", but actually it's similar to sleep walking in that they're not concious. Trying to rouse them can be very distressing and disorientating. I just reassure and try settling them, saying the same things I do when I put them to bed which seems to give security. They have no idea who I am as I am not part of the "dream". If it carries on after settling, a trip to the loo seems to stir them enough to then be able to sleep. It's not a nice phase but it will pass....x

I havent yet experienced this, but have read somewhere that it could be a video or book that you are reading to your lo?  perhaps that could be it?  Also it also suggested that instead of telling your lo that there is nothing there, you pretend to shoo it out of the room and say it is now gone.  Sounds a bit lame, but worth a go and worth looking at watch he is watching / reading, could be something you see as really innocent like "The Three Little Pigs" or something! lol  xx

my nephew has night terrors - they are very specific. he moans, wails, crys, thrashes about, sometime appears asleep, other times awake, he cant be comforted when they happen. sometimes mild and last 5 mins others can go on 15 mins and have more than one a night. he doesnt know my you are there. what we all do is just sit with him to make sure hes safe and offer cuddles if he does wake. he doesnt rememeer them. when he has had a night mare tho he has woken and talked of a bear or something. he could be comforted and was able to wake or be woken.... just a thought but are there any obvious shadows or shapes that could be disturbing him? lay on his bed at night and look rounf his roomt o see if there is anyhting that may look odd/scary when sleepy

Just wondered if anyone has any experience of  their lo waking with nightmares/terrors. My lo is waking  crying out and saying that there is a scary man in his bed.
