i thiknk at this age its just a word for the most part. My ds likes "red" and says it all the time. Like a previous poster he also says "2" to everything. If you say how manys that, he'll say "2", if you count the stairs he'll repeat what you say then say "no, 2"!!!!!!!!lol

I really wouldnt worry they all learn differently and i wouldnt be too concerned at all, hth xxx

My ds is 23 months and his speech is really good and I think he's quite advanced!  He doesn't however get colours right or if he does it's by chance. If you ask him what colour it is he'll say blue for example and if you say no he'll say green and carry on till he gets it right, but you show him the same colour again and he'll say something different!

I don't think they should really know them till they're about 3.

My ds is nearly 21 months and doesnt say any colours yet. I think though it will be the same situation as my ds saying 2,3,2,3,2,3, itsjust the word your lo can say.

My ds is 22 months.  A few months ago everything was green, then he decided everything was yellow.  Now most things are pink but he does know orange, but thats the only one he knows.

Kian went through a phase that everything was PINK!!!!!!! Ky isn't interested in colours but does know pink from blue as he has a pink bear and a blue bear.  I wouldn't worry about it.

No, DD went through a stage where everything was blue or yellow but has past that now and is 90% right first time with colours now.  Can I just say though, he wouldn't be able to see green or red if he were colour blind would he?  This is a genuine question btw not statement as I always thought that red and green were the main ones you can't see if colour blind but not 100%?

Colours are a complex concept for toddlers. They will only see the object first and the colour of things will come later. Your toddler will not understand colours atm. Most children will be able to identify colours at around 3yrs of age and definetly by 4. Its the same with numbers. Most children dont understand the concept of 3 even though they may say it [  a group of 3 things ] but may know what 3 looks like. I am a teacher lol!!!

No he's not colour blind - he's probably jsut realised that he can say a new word and just likes saying it. He'll come round to saying all the colours properly in time. My dd always says 'bye bye' at the moment, even if she's about to have lunch! It's her favourite thing ...

Can you little one tell you the colours yet? To Tom EVERTHING this "geen" even immediately after I've told him its red, yellow etc.

Is this normal, or is he colour blind?
