    Hi!

I am a speech and language therapist in Bristol! Don't work privately at the moment though - work over in Newport for the good old NHS.  Just thought I would provide you with the contact details for the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice.  They have a website where you can type in postcode etc and do a search and get quotes from private slt's.  Their details are:

    http://www.helpwithtalking.com/

Hope that helps, pm me if you have any other questions!

    Lindsay xx

Hi Friendship if you contact cerebra www.cerebra.org they will fund a private assessment and a course of sessions with an approved SALT. Don't know if there is a certain criteria but know of parents who have benefited from this.

As for legal help regarding schools contact www.SENDIST.co.uk. I take it that you are still having troubles from your post. How is the SEN assessment going? let me know if I can help more, Donna

We hired a private speech therapist when my son was 2 and a half.  The initial appointment + assesment was  £80 and her session were £50.  (There are standard rates as per the institute of sppech + language). You do not get any help with the costs from your local authority, although you could try claiming DLA.

To get local authority help you need to either liase with your GP or your health visitor.

I had to fight to get my son one-to-one therapy, as there was a long waiting list. He has had speech therapy from our local SLT for 2 years + will be being discharged soon. (His is now 5 years old)
