I have had 2 boys with unilateral cleft lip and palate, both to the left. Both have had 2 operations each and lots of people can't recognise that they have had cleft lip and palate. Feel free to pm me. Karen x

my niece was born with cleft lip/palate and had an op when she was a few months old, shes now 5 and you wouldnt know that she'd had it. she hasnt suffered from any problems at all and my brother and sil found the hospital really helpful with their concerns.

Hiya my dd was born with a cleft palate. She is now 6 and doing perfectly fine apart from a few speech problems. My dd didn't have a cleft lip, so not sure how much help I can be to you. When she was a baby she had some trouble feeding due to having no suction in her mouth.

I didn't actually find out about the cleft until after my dd was born, it wasn't picked up on a scan.

If I can help you in any way feel free to pm me at anytime. There is also a good website, www.faceforward.org.uk this is for people with cleft or their parents. You will find lots of useful advice and friendly people on there

We havent been through this ourselves, but know a 3mth baby boy who just had an op to correct cleft and he looks really good, could never even tell, so am sure yours will be fine. Also his mother had pre-eclampsia and so was in hosp a while, and the 20 wk scan never picked it up, so on top of that the cleft was something new to deal with when he was born!

    Thinking of u x

hello love, my heart goes out to you. I remember only too well how you feel. We was told at our 20 week scan our daughter has a cleft lip and palate we spent the rest of my pregnancy in shock. Had things going through my head that I thought no-one would be able to understand - our cleft nurse was great. 20 weeks later our daughter was born by c section due to other complications. (we both could of died) with a cleft of the lip and gum and not her palate she had her surgery in feb this year and looks amazing now. Please feel free to pm me anytime I could even send you some pictures to show you the difference now. Love to you sue
