A bit of an odd one really...anyones lo who has kidney problems also got tailpes (clubfoot)?  My son has one basically as a consequence of not having enough fluid around him when he was in my tum as he wasn't weeing.  ANyway he has special insoles in his shoes to wear saw podiatrist again last week and shes got me thinking.  She was asking how far he can walk and what his stamina is like.  I've got back problems so I am very strict in not picking up my ds and making him walk everywhere but he does ask for cuddles when hes tired and he is very slow.  I explained this and felt I wasn't sure if it was due to general lack of energy due to knackered kidneys, or whether it was due to his feet, or if hes not overly confident as he wears glasses and not the best at judging distances.

Do you think I'm being too hard on my son encouraging him to walk so much?  He never complains of pain but I'm terrible at just thinking hes lazy (he won't do much for himself if he thinks he can get away with it).  hes only 3 love to hear how anyone else manages this situation.  Sorry for it being sooo long

Hi  Everyone, see we have some new mums.Hope this thread helps you as much as it has me. Anyway on the MAG3 scan my son hasn't had this test but if you look further down I think on page two Clareayoung posted a good description of what it involves dated 07/09/08. Those 20 week scans have a lot to answer for dont they, all the worry. The way they give the antibiotics to my ds was simple. They just measured the amount in a srynge then took the teat off the bottle and let him suck it as he would his milk easy enough, that's what I still do now. I'm going to have to leave it at that ds is up. Again hope your pregnancies are doing well.

Hi EVeryone!if you look you will find!

Thanks Gillot for letting me know about this, i have just put a notice up as i just jumped straight to it, for everyone else with the same situation or similar here is the story so far (once again)
When i went for my 20 wk scan they found that baby has multicystic kidney i was blind to it and not to sure what this meant searched online for it and understood it a bit better then recently at my last scan last week i think my consultant advised that the kidney was getting bigger and told me that the baby will ned to be born early and have surgery, that was it i was in tears, she referred me and to Oxford John Radcliffe which we (me and hubby) went to yesterday, and now we both have a better understanding of the situation, the doctor explained what it was all about and evern drew a picture which helped so much have more understanding loking at the picture coz when they say from the scan here is the hear here is the...etc i just look and think ri-igh, but now the doctor said that baby will need to be put on antibiotics as soon as born (not quite sure how they will do that) and then a few weeks or months cant remember after will need surgery, he is happy for us not to book another appointment with him but just to be on safe side he book us in with specialist, who will phoned and discuss the options, ie if the birth needs to be bought forward or not etc.
So once again awaiting a phone call for an appointment to get final answers, Im glad i found the 'kidney crew'

Hey everyone, my little girl has a dilated kidney due to a blockage, had an appointment last week and was told they probably do anything about it, have to say i was rather shocked at this! They are sending her for a scan where they inject dye and see how her kidney functions, can anyone shed any light on this as the dr was rather short! He decided all this and that it wont have got any bigger on a scan that was done at 10 days old, shes now 12 weeks! She is on trimethropin, which he upped from 0.48ml to 1ml. Been left feeling a little confused!

So good to hear pregnancies are going well I took it for granted with my first that he had no problems.  Changed Tommy onto amoxicillin and he was fine with it, took a urine sample in a few days later and it was clear. So for now he's ok. By the way his bloods were all normal the last appointment and his creatinine levels are still normal. He had his MCUG and it showed no reflux but his bladder is in quite bad shape. Any way I won't go on that's all really. Hope your all keeping well.

Hi Kelly, I hope Tommy is feeling bettter now. Oliver has never had that medican but when he gets a urine infection he is always sick. Thats one of the first signs something is wrong. My sister is a childs nurse and she says the same, when they have a child that is being sick for no reason they will always check for a urine infection. When Oliver was a baby (about 6 months+ ) we went through about 3-4 months of him being really sick once a day. I really found it hard to cope with but we were told he was the only sypmtom that he was showing from his kidney problem.

Now at 2 years 3 months he is now only sick when he gets ill, that could be anything from a cold to high temperture. He has not had a urine infection since he was 11 months old! but he did have four between 5 months and 11 months.

Pregnancy is still going well, I am nearly 27 weeks now. Baby Hayden is still showing no sign of kidneys problems.

    Hi,

I had my scan on Friday and baby was well and happy, it was doing a head stand so taking measurements was a little awkward but after a bit of poking baby soon moved around - i am 13 weeks now and due on the 5th May so feel pleased to have the first Trimester over with and the knowledge that all is well.

I am due back in 7 weeks now to have the full 20 week scan so feeling very hopeful that this baby will be perfectly healthy and Luke's condition was just a little blip.

Hope everyone else is well and our little monsters are all doing good.

    Clare x

Really pleased both your pregnancys are going ok. Ressurring if I decide to have another although I doubt it very much. Anyway really need some advice. Lo’s got a urine infection he’s not been too bad and his temp has now gone the only thing is they gave him some antibiotics called Nitrofurantoin. I don’t know if any of you  have used this but if I give him some before his milk he brings the whole feed up, if I give him it after his milk he just screems like he’s in pain I’m sure it’s the antibiotics as when I give him a big gap between doses he’s fine, it’s just everytime I give him the antibiotics they make him ill. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Please any advice I’m tearing my hair out.

    hi

My lo had a mag 3 scan when he was 14 wks old due to a mutlicystic dysplastic kidney.  The scan bit was absolutely fine he slept all the way through it, i think i was worse.  The worst bit was when he had the canular in, they couldn't get it at first due to fact he had had lots of canular in his hand before hand as he was 9wks premature and had an operation at 6wks of age, so it took them longer and the poor little thing just screamed the place down and by the time they had finished i was crying too.  Don;t let what i've said worry you i think my lo was bad cause they couldn't get canular in.  My lo is now 13 months old and is fine when we go for scans and hospital appts (he has scans every 6months) the only thing he doesn't like is when he has his injections.

Hope it all goes ok good luck

    Hi Laura,

Congratulations of having another boy but more so that this baby isnt showing any signs of kidney issues. Its a relief to know all is well, i am 11 weeks now and have my first scan next week, I am looking forward to getting to my 5 month scan and getting the all clear so i can enjoy this pregnancy. I really dont care what the sex is as long as i have no dramas or worries to deal with (but a girl would be nice ;-) ).

    Hi all!

Oliver has always been a terrible drinker, I used to get so stressed and worried about it when he was younger. If he didnt drink a certain amount I would lose it (not with Oliver but my dh!) This was one thing that really worried me.

Now Im a lot carmer, maybe because Oliver is doing brillantly. We have not had a infection for over a year well nearer 18 months really! We seem to have no problem linked to his kidneys at all now!

Im sure he is drinking enough, he is at the age now where he can tell you if he needs a drink, try not to worry about it. If you really think he isnt drinking enough than ice pops of lollies or even jelly contains extra fluid.

We have found out my new bump is another boy. I have had five scans so far and we have no signs of any kidney problems, please keep your fingers crossed it stays that way.

Hi only me again I wish I could help you more you've helped me lots but I've not got that far yet. Only an idea though but what about ice pops might he be inticed by something like that, after all it's only frozen juice. I know it's not really the answer your looking for but it's just an idea.

Just bumping up really, but I'm a bit worried about my lo who has kidney probs we've always been advised he's to drink loads which he usually does but now hes potty trained, and know his own mind (hes 3) hes drinking considerably less more recently.  Has anyone any experience of this? Do you think he will be at greater risk of infections?? (I really hope not as hes down so well the last few months)  Thanks

    Hi again

Both my LO's kidneys are damaged and apparently it's quite common for kidneys to leak sodium when they are damaged but that's all I know really. I hope for you they will find out the cause and then be able to control it. My son has regular bloods done to check his kidney function and sodium levels, they keep a very careful eye on him so they can act fast if things change and hopefully prevent things from happening. Well better go feed time for LO. Hope everything goes ok, let us know how things go and we're all here for support, your not on your own.

    Hi Ebbie1

So sorry your poor baby, must have been awful for you. My son has sodium supplements on and off sometimes his bloods are fine others he needs the sodium. At the min his kidney function is normal and he's off the sodium for now. We go back tomorrow for the dye scan which I'm dreading and again bloods on wednesday so we'll have to see. How old is your son? Did he have kidney probs that you knew about to begin with? Hope he's on the mend it's awful to have to watch your LO's go through so much.

Hey, Yep Luke has had 2 of these and is booked in for another in January, have a read of my post back on 7th Sept as i wrote a little about the procedure. Its really nothing to worry about - it looks a lot scarier than it actually is.

Good luke, PM me if you have any questions :-)

Hi everyone, my son is 14 weeks old and has problems with his plumbing system. He's booked in 2 weeks time for a Mag3 Scan. Is anyone here familiar with this type of scan? Our pediatrician explained everything to me, but I was just wondering if any of your babies had this and how it went, how they reacted etc. I wish good luck to all of you!
