Hi read this thread and just wanted to quickly say that I had a similar problem. My ds started school and within 2 months the teacher said she thought he had problems so refered him to a speach therapist and hearing. Anyway the speach therapist was baffled said there was no problems (which is was I thought) and there is no problems with his hearing. A few of my friends are teachers and they couldn't see where she was coming from. So the speach therapist said she didn't need to see him. The teacher still insisted there was a problem and wanted the therapist to come to the school. To cut a long story short I moved and we changed schools, where the teachers not only think there is no problems but say he is doing really well. Anyway I've forgot about it now and my son is doing great. Don't know if this helps and I know some situations are different but I just wanted to let you know that they don't always get it right. Hope things workout anyway.

Try and get an appointment with the teacher before summer hol's as it'll be playing on your mind until September, also if they can pin point something for you, you could work on it over the holidays. They really do need to explain themselves better.
Do you have much contact with his teacher? I know they are quick to form opinions on people, which is very unfair but often the case
Perhaps he doesn't concentrate to well because he is bored? I should imagine having lots of siblings has provided lots of stimulation for him. His teacher should be suggesting ways to help, and it doesn't sound like they are being to helpful.

Hi Bernie how old is your son? My daughter is 5yrs old and in year 1 and shortly will be going into year 2 she will be 6 next month she is quite a way behind but i have had nothing said from the teachers i know she works in a small group and now and again one to one to help her catch up. But the teachers should be helping you by keeping you informed all the time it shouldn't matter if you have no other children to 10 children that shouldn't make a difference at the end of the day he is still your son and you need to know and be kept informed. as far a im aware its something to do with his concentration and the fact hes not progressing with his reading and writing ive seen a difference in his work . I dont think its anything to do with behaviour as hes a very good kid can be disruptive and a bit young for his age but thats just adam
i know this is a stupid question but something has been playing on my mind you dont think because i have 5 children and they are all very young that she thinks that maybe im a crap mum and that im abusing him in some way ????

Hi Bernie
Have your son's teachers actually told your specifically what their concerns are? If it's just that he is behind then why have they sent him to a doctor? I really think you should have a meeting with your son's teacher and make a list (take pen and paper) of their issues. You can't do anything about it if you don't know what's wrong.
Do they think it's something physical ie problems with eye sight or hearing or something behavioural (sp?) ? They are not being fair to you by not keeping you informed every step of the way, and they can't possible blame you if they can't even give you any clues as to what they think the problem is.
Sorry I can't be more help, demand answers so you can work together to get to the bottom of the problem, Lou x

my son is in reception at school and the teachers are concerned over his progress and had me get him refered to a doc at hospital to get him seen .The doc at the hospital said he couldnt see a problem but now my sons teacher wants him to be seen by the school phycologist (spelling sorry ) i am worryed as i dont know what is wrong with him as i cant see a problem with him all things are going through my head i even had worried that they may be blaming me for his lack of progress x

Thanks hun i know what you mean i couldnt see a problem the only thing im looking forward to is that hes only one week left in that class and i think with a different teacher he may be left just to get on as its his class teacher whos the pushy one . He has 2 teachers who split the week and one teacher is brill and doesnt see a problem the other well she seems to not beable to let it go x
