My son was born early with major heart defects, he's partially deaf, has a cyst on his brain and is currently undergoing tests for CF.
Due to his problems we are in receipt of DLA but we have just found out that he has even more heart problems that originally thought and he will need more surgery. Due to his size 15lbs odd and 1 year old, they don't want to do it until he grows more as risks and also when he starts to become breathless.
Although he's small he's already starting pulling himself up on settee, although no crawling just a bum shuffle. Do u think its work applying for the orange badge when he's 2...

It's worth applying-if he can walk at all by then you will need a letter from his consultant confirming that he has serious mobility problems due to his medical condition. You could actually try now as the law has just changed which means some children can get a blue badge before their second birthday-he would probably fit thecriteria if you can prove that you need access to a car to give him medical treatment if neccessary or to drive him to the hospital if he needs urgent treatment again you would need a consultants letter to confirm what you say. The main criteria for a blue badge is that a child must be severely disabled enough to qualify for higher rate mobility allowance (which they can't get until they are three). My youngest was turned down at two but qualified six months later once he had turned three as he had been awarded higher rate mobility by then!! If you are turned down you can always appeal if you feel they haven't considered all the medical information.
