Hi chappers1982, my 1 year old daughter has a haemangioma birthmark on the right side of her nose and cheek, we go to alderhey childrens hospital for treatment for the mark, as the growth had to be stopped, its been a very tough year and i know exactly what your friend is going through, at one time i would only go out if i had someone with me because i couldnt handle peoples reactions to my daughters face. it would be great to hear from anyone going through the same as me, my email address is tialou13@hotmail.co.uk

Hi - my friends little girl has one right between her eyes on the bridge of her nose and it is very noticable. However she is now 2 and it has a shrunk a lot from what it used to be all on its own if that is any consolation.

sorry meant hellieandhollie!! (stupid mummy brain!)

00hi hellieandelle, thanks so much for your reply. I was amazed to hear that people could be so cruel!! I think i would have punched someone if they'd said it to or in front of me!!!
I just asked her when we met what it was (clearly a birthmark of some description!!) and she told me and i have never noticed it since!
My mum always taught me that if you had nothing nice to say then don't say anything at all!!!
What area are you in? Would you mind if i gave her your user name to find and message you?
Thanks so much for your reply, love to you both xxx

im gate crashing from 7 to 12 month site and really felt i needed to reply
tell your friend i know exactly how she feels my lo is 9 months and has one on the top of her head and in her ear, apparently its very rare to have just the one.
I have had exactly the same comments as your friend i would say nearly everytime we are out some one asks, or makes a comment.
such as "oh has she banged her head" "oh thats a nasty bump" "whats that on her head" and the most hurtful " has someone been hitting you" i will not tell you my reply to that one i may offend.
i would never dream of saying some of the things i have been asked. my partner gets really angry my responce depends on how the person asks but my patients is wearing thin.
i have been told it will disapear completely by the age of 5 and her hair should grow over it in a few months but completely understand where your friend is coming from.
aparently they can be removed or they can inject them and they shrink but think they will only do this if its near the eyes etc.

hi ladywatts- my friends' lo has hers on the side of her face and a large lump around her ear region. I can understand why she gets upset and feels that it is unsightly, i don't even notice it when i see her lo now, i just see the beautiful bubbly happy little baby that she is! It's just a shame that strangers can't look past it and feel they have to comment (horribly!)
One lady came up to her in the street and asked her if she had hit her daughter

My son has a small strawberry birthmark on the right side of his tummy (shaped like a chick). Not sure if this is the same as your friend's LO but my HV and GP have both advised that it should decrease in size and totally disappear by the time he turns 7. I'm not really bothered by it and neither is he but I think I would be if it were much bigger or somewhere more obvious.
I found this website which looks like it could be quite useful for your friend.

Hello all, i am new to this forum and wondered if there was anyone out there whos lo has a haemangioma birthmark? One of my very close friend's little girl suffers with this and i she (the mother) gets very down about it and has had allsorts of very nasty remarks made whilst out resulting in her wanting to hide away at home!
I said that i would ask on here and find out if there is anyone out there that is also going through this that she could talk to. It's all well and good talking to me and other friends but i feel that she would benefit greatly from chatting to someone going through the same.
Her lo is coming upto 8mths old.
Thanks so much
Kindest regards
Marie

my little boy has one under his right eye, and it looked as though he had a blackeye (he'll love looking back on his baby photos lol!)) and it amazed me the amount of people who passed comment. Anyhow the consultant at he hospital did say it would fade in time, and would grow with him iykwim, which it has he's now 3 and its only noticeable when he's tired.
