tpn is a total nutrition that is normally given via a long line or other iv access and provides all the nutrition needed it is often given to premature babies before they are milk fed or if for any reason they cant be milk fed

Hi, I just googled it, sorry no my son hasn't got one put in, he is fed a high calorie milk directly into his tummy, possibly a lifelong thing he needs. If your child does have the line fitted, I hope it all goes well. My son does have varioius medical equipment in the home (has to have a room downstairs due to all the space his stuff takes up!) as well as his feeding pump. It was daunting at first but we soon got used to it!

Hi, can I just ask what a tpn line is? I've got a 3 yr old who is solely gastrostomy fed due to an inability to thrive (he was ng fed for 8 months prior to having it), not sure what a tpn is though!

sorry i don't know much.. my daughter is on NG tube feeds and has been since 1 week old. She is 4 weeks old on tuesay. They told me she will stay on NG indefinatly and we will cross the weaning stage when we get to it, as there are other problems to deal with in the meantime. She also has microcephaly and cleft lip and palate.

my son is losing lots of weight and is curently very underwight he is currently g-tube fed loads of milk extra calories etc he cannot eat oral food lots of medical probs they r giving him 4 weeks and if he loses more weight they will be putting a tpn line in just after some advise please

Hi, sorry don't know about home TPN but my ds was on it in hospital from birth until about 7 months. He then went on to NG tube feeding and is fine now. Just wanted to wish you luck and I'm sure, even if it seems a bit daunting, once you get used to all the equipment you will be fine. Good luck to you both.
